Many of us are locked down thanks to Coronavirus and looking for things to entertain our brains – and our children’s brains too. Well, what better way than completing LEGO® challenges online? Online LEGO workshops are now available for your kids thanks to Bricks McGee. Founded in 2013 and based in Newcastle upon Tyne, Bricks McGee usually runs LEGO workshops for schools and museums – as well as team-building sessions for businesses – throughout the UK.
Now they’re bringing their brick building activities and challenges to the online world with a range of online activities you can join.
Weird and wonderful LEGO activities
There are a range of LEGO activities aimed at 5 to 11-year-olds available, including LEGO catapult building and self-portraits. “We’ve thought carefully about which of our activities will work online for as many people as possible. This means you don’t need a lot of LEGO bricks to join in with our online workshops,” says Richard Carter, founder of Bricks McGee – “though it did mean we’ve removed our LEGO robot workshops which is a shame as they’re a lot of fun!”.
Each online session lasts around an hour and has a limited capacity to ensure everyone gets the most from the activity. A DBS checked facilitator is in each to describe the challenge and help participants test and solve their ideas, though they encourage parents and guardians to join in with the fun if they can.
Participants just need a modest pile of LEGO parts to join in, as well as a way to join the video call for the duration of the session – a tablet or smartphone is ideal. Upcoming online LEGO sessions can be found on the Bricks McGee Eventbrite page.
LEGO bricks aren’t just for kids
Oh – and if you’re an adult LEGO fan and feel you’re missing out, don’t worry – there’s always the chance to sign up to a Bricks and Beers event aimed specifically at adults!
