LEGOLAND Billund Celebrates 55th Anniversary

It’s 55 years to the very day since the world’s first LEGOLAND park opened its gates in Billund, Denmark. As LEGO toys became more popular and with an airport right next door, visits to the LEGO factory in Billund increased. This gave Godtfred Kirk Christiansen an idea to showcase the LEGO brand and some of the fun things that could be built with LEGO bricks in an area close to the airport and LEGO factories. This would form the very first LEGOLAND park and the blueprint for more parks worldwide. Now 55 years on, LEGOLAND Billund is vastly bigger than the original park and includes numerous rides, hotels and continues to welcome visitors. Learn more about LEGOLAND Billund Resort here.

  1. Shame there’s no commemorative item on sale to recognise this fact. Disney parks have been cashing in on their anniversaries for decades.
