LEGOLAND Billund Celebrates 50 Years

2018 is a pretty big year for LEGO® with a number of landmark milestones being reached across the brand. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the LEGO brick patent being issued, the 40th anniversary of the LEGO Minifigure and 50 years since the very first LEGOLAND park opened its doors over in Billund. The park was originally opened was a way to showcase some of the impressive structure made from LEGO bricks, it became an instant hit and the park soon grew to include rides and other attractions themed around those colour bricks. To mark the parks 50th year LEGOLAND Billund has been given a bit of a makeover, with the famous entrance completely redesigned to offer an exciting new colourful welcome to the park. There is also an update to the LEGOREDO Town area of the park, which now includes an exciting new rollercoaster ride. LEGOLAND Billund reopens later this month and to celebrate the reopening of the park in its 50th year, the Danish Royal Family will be visiting the park to help mark this special occasion. LEGOLAND® celebrates 50 years in 2018 and celebrates the birthday with a new rollercoaster for the smaller children and a major upgrade of the entire park. To mark the opening on March 24 and the inauguration of the new area in LEGOREDO Town, DKH Prince Joachim and Princess Marie will be present as honorary guests in the official celebrations.

LEGOLAND is busy at the moment. The park’s many employees are working on high pressure to get ready for a very special season, where LEGOLAND is 50 years old. When the park hits the doors on March 24th, guests will experience a big change. The entire entrance portal will be filled with beautiful colours and many new LEGO® characters will characterise the buildings around the entrance.

LEGOLAND also celebrates it’s birthday by upgrading the uninspiring area LEGOREDO® Town. Here the younger children enjoy a brand new Flying Eagle, and the guest favour, LEGO Canoe, is completely renovated after 25 years of more than 18 million canoe trips.

“We are looking forward to celebrating the LEGOLAND park’s 50th birthday with our guests. Therefore it is also a great pleasure that the opening this year will be very special with royal visits, says Christian Woller, director of LEGOLAND.
