Happy 61 Years Of The LEGO Brick

Although it may not be as significant a birthday as last year, on this day 61 years ago, the LEGO® brick was ”born’. At 13:58 (Danish time) on January 28th 1958 the iconic design of the LEGO brick was patented in Denmark. If lasting over 60 years wasn’t impressive enough, those very first bricks are still compatible with those you can buy today, how many other toys can boast of that sort of achievement. There have been some ups and downs over the last 60 plus years but the love of the brick remains as strong as ever. This year marks another significant year for the LEGO brand, with the second LEGO Movie hitting cinemas and LEGO Star Wars celebrating 20 years. For now, let’s wish the LEGO brick, a very happy 61st anniversary, here’s to another year of fuelling creativity through play.
