Warner Bros. Gaming Unit Could Be Sold Off

It’s being reported that AT&T, the parent company of WarnerMedia, is looking to sell Warner Bros. Games. Many will know that Warner Bros. Games has owned TT Games for since 2007 and has been producing official LEGO® games long before that. Now it is emerging that the entire gaming unit at Warner could be sold off, with EA, Take-Two and Activision expressing interest in the outlet. This could have massive implications for the future of TT Games and LEGO titles going forward. EA has a history of closing studios, Activision seems to only like Call of Duty games and Take-Two has a vast adult-orientated line-up of titles. Will TT Games continue to create LEGO games or will they start being licensed out to various developers? TT Games recently got a new studio head who was quoted as saying “I’m very excited by the opportunity to help create a new vision for TT and lead the studio forward to another successful phase of its evolution” which could suggest TT Games were expanding beyond just LEGO content anyway. In recent months the LEGO Group have moved away from their strong ties with Warner Bros., moving their cinematic output to Universal and working closely with Nickelodeon on TV content. If you look at all the games Warner put out, the LEGO titles are probably the most profitable and popular. Whatever happens, I hope TT Games continue to oversee the LEGO games they have perfected over the years.
