It’s been brewing for a couple of days now but the America side of Toys R Us has finally files for bankruptcy protection. Although this doesn’t been stores will be closing their doors immediately, there is a possibility some store could be closed as the company tries to restructure in order to tackle debts of over $40 million. Currently this is only affecting the US and Canadian Toys R Us stores with UK stores run as a separate unaffected business. However the situation in America will have a widespread affect and will impact LEGO® products greatly. Toys R Us is a key retail partner of Toys R Us and as the past few weeks has shown they provide LEGO fans will a large number of key exclusive items. As part of the upcoming Bricktober promotion they are stocking four special Minifigure sets and were set to offer two exclusive The LEGO NINJAGO Movie BrickHeadz. They also partnered with LEGO to offer one lucky LEGO fan with the chance to design their own LEGO Friends set. You may not be a fan of Toys R Us but they are a key component to the toy retailer on a whole, if they disappear it will affect manufacturers, products and customers beyond just Toys R Us. Hopefully they will emerge from this in a better position or the toy industry on a whole could be greatly changed forever.
