The LEGO Movie 2 Minifigure Clocks Review

A few weeks ago I broke the news of the range of buildable watches and Minifigure Clocks based on The LEGO® Movie 2. These included a new style clock, compared to past releases from ClicTime. Who have sent me a couple to take a closer look at. The new design moves the digital clock display into a mounted within oversized 1×3 brick, sat upon two 2×4 plates, with a large-scale minifigures stood at the back. Although they share similar features to past Minifigure clocks, it’s a completely new product and something which will continue with future products, including these upcoming LEGO Star Wars clocks. For now I’ll be taking a look at the Emmet and Wyldstyle/Lucy Minifigure Clocks.

The brand new design changes every single aspect of the clock, the LCD display is slightly more compact compare to past version, but it’s now a little clearer to see and the digits have been given a LEGO makeover and now look like actual LEGO bricks. The main numbers show the current time, with the smaller numbers in the lower right hand corner highlighting the alarm time.

There are a trio of button on top of the clock display which double up as the bricks studs. These also have dual uses, with the first demoing the new alarm sound and snooze functions, and the other two activating the light. These can also be used to set the clocks time and alarm, in conjunction with the slide switches on the rear of the clock. One of these switches the alarm function on or off, the other allows you to set the time or alarm time. It’s certainly a little easier to set the clock up now, compared to older products.

One of the things which hasn’t changed with the new design is the illuminated display. These will light up when the alarm activates or when one of the buttons are pressed. It only stays on for a few seconds and is bright enough to easily show the time in the dark of night.

When these were first revealed, I was a little unsure how they compared to the older clocks, in terms of size. As you can see above there is quite a size difference. The older clocks were classed as ‘550%’ with the LEGO Movie 2 ones being ‘300%’, I understand that some future LEGO Minifigure Clocks will also offer a ‘500%’ size. I have to admit the new size is quite smaller than I expected But it is a totally new design and if the same scale minifigure was placed upon an equivalently sized display base, it would be far to big to put anywhere. The Minifigure has the same points of articulation in the head, arms and hands as a standard Minifigure, It doesn’t bend at the waist and it cannot be removed from the base section.

The LEGO Movie 2 Emmet Minifigure Clock

Product Description

When the LEGO® Universe comes under attack, there’s no one better to have by your side than the LEGO® Movie 2 Emmet Minifigure Alarm Clock. Standing at just over 6 inches tall and wearing his trusty orange construction suit with poseable arms. Featuring characterised alarm sound, a brand-new base design and light up clock display with snooze functions Emmet is the perfect addition to any LEGO fans nightstand.

As with the case of Emmets appearances in many of the LEGO Movie 2 sets, he looks very much like he does in the first movie. Although his ‘print’ detail is a little worn. The face print is the same as the one featured on Emmet from the Rex’s Rex-treme Offroader set, as well as quite a few other sets. So you’ll get to wake up to Emmet’s cheerey smile. As with other LEGO products from ClicTime, despite the change in scale, the larger version is a perfect recreation.

Another all-new feature of the clocks are the new themed alarms. These are now unique to each clocks character. With Emmet relying a cheerful message, followed by a generic alarm sound. You can check it out below. It’s clear its not Chris Pratt providing the voice of Emmet, but it’s a decent enough soundalike.

The LEGO Movie 2 Wyldstyle Minifigure Clock

Product Description

Meet Wyldstyle, the heroine of the LEGO® Universe. The LEGO® Movie 2 Wyldstyle Minifigure Alarm Clock stands at 6.5 inches with a brand-new design and characterised alarm sound. Featuring an easy-to-read digital LCD display, poseable arms and snooze and backlight functions the LEGO® Movie 2 Wyldstyle Minifigure Clock has everything she needs to survive in the post-apocalyptic wasteland they now call home.

  • Product Name: The LEGO Movie 2 Wyldstyle Minifigure Alarm Clock
  • Features: Light-up Digital LCD, Snooze Function, Movable Arms & Legs
  • Product Dimensions: 6 Inches tall
  • RRP: £24.99/$30.00/€34.99
  • Item No: 9003974
  • Requires: 2 x AAA Batteries (included)

Unlike Emmet, Wyldstyle aka Lucy, has taken to apocalyptic lifestyle with ease and so features a new look. Here she is sporting her recon goggles and scarf. The only thing she is missing is her quiver, but the rest of her outfit is the same as her Minifigure counterpart. Just like Emmet, there are numerous versions of Lucy in the various sets. But the nearest I’ve found to the version here is the Lucy from the Welcome To Apocalypseburg! set.

Wyldstyle also has a unique character alarm and I’m sorry to say it sounds nothing like the character. Not even a little bit, which is a shame, but the actual clock is still a great take on the character. Just like Emmet clock, Wyldstyle cannot be removed from the base.

Overall

When I first opened the box I have to admit I was quite surprised by the size of the new design. I was expecting them to be a little bigger. But I quite like the different scale, the combination of a Minifigure and some LEGO bricks results in a fun looking clock. This is further enforced with the new brick-shaped numbers. The new themed alarms are good fun as well, although Wyldstyle’s is a little cingey. The functions of the clock are easy to use and set up. Making them the perfect companion to for LEGO fans of all ages. I can’t wait to see what future releases will offer, using this new style design.
