Following the release of the Classic Space and Castle sets released last year, the latest LEGO® Icons set brings back another reimagined set with the Eldorado Fortress. The original set was released back in 1989 and acted as the base for the Imperial Army. It formed part of the LEGO Pirates theme and now that original set has been updated and reimagined for a new generation. The 2023 Eldorado Fortress, features an Imperial ship and the stronghold of the Imperial Forces. Oddly, the set has just appeared on LEGO.com with zero fanfare or press release (press release now added below). The set will be released on July 7th, with VIP Early Access from July 4th.
A NEW SHIP CALLS FOR A NEW CAPTAIN AS PIRATES RETURN TO THE LEGO GROUP
14th June 2023: The LEGO Group today announces the return of one of its most popular themes, with the launch of the new LEGO® Icons Eldorado Fortress set which is based on the original LEGO Pirates theme. The highly anticipated return of the Pirates theme is in response to high demand from LEGO fans, after it topped the charts in a recent 90th anniversary vote on the LEGO Ideas platform.
Also known as Governor’s Fort Sabre, the Eldorado Fortress was a LEGO Pirates set based on Imperial Forts from the Golden Age of the piracy era and the original set was unveiled in 1989. The new 2509 piece set is highly detailed and features the fortress and working port, a jail, a working crane, trap doors, plus an imperial ship and small pirate rowboat. In addition, the set comes with six soldier minifigures and two pirate minifigures – plus a cheeky monkey.
The new LEGO Pirates set will be available to purchase from 4th July 2023 for LEGO VIPs via LEGO Stores and LEGO.com and 7th July for all, priced at $239.99/€239.99/£189.99
