LEGO DUPLO At 50 – Evolution Of A Logo

Today marks the 50th Anniversary of the LEGO® DUPLO® brick. Over those post 50 years the DUPLO brand has changed a lot, but there has been a certain red rabbit who has remained constant. Well almost, in the early 2000’s LEGO DUPLO became LEGO Explore, but do to customer feedback, the original name and brand mascot returned and has remained the face of DUPLO ever since. It all started with a Danish company, called Plan Design, who were given the task of developing a logo – and the now famous rabbit logo is chosen among many different animal drawings. After studying the ratio between the rabbit and the lettering for the logo, Plan Design were unsure whether to proceed with the rabbit logo or whether the word DUPLO would be strong enough to act as a logo on its own. To make sure, both versions were tested, the conclusion was that the rabbit logo is much better received than its counterpart.

Over the years, the DUPLO logo has gone through minor changes but the present logo still pays homage to the original.
