LEGO DOTS Bag Tags Review

Since the LEGO® DOTS theme was launched last year, it’s provided an impressive mix of printed tiles and new elements. It’s even inspired clothing lines from both Levi and Adidas. The interesting new elements continue with the latest LEGO DOTS releases. Bag Tag is cube-like pieces that can be decorated with various DOTS tiles and includes a secure loop clip that allows it to be connected to things. Here’s a closer look at these new animal-themed LEGO DOTS Bag Tag sets.

The Build

As with a lot of the more interesting LEGO DOTS sets, the building is very minimal instead the draw is the new elements and uniquely printed tiles. The Bag Tags sets include two new elements and a number of new tiles. The basic design of each set is the same so you’ll find a cube that features a 3×3 studded plate on each of the faces of the cube. If these look familiar, it’s because they are very similar to the LEGO Dice piece used in the LEGO Games sets from a few years ago. They are just a little bigger and feature a loop for the clip piece to be added. The clip is the second new part, the way it connects together is quite clever and makes the loop quite secure.

The Bag Tags are each themed around different creatures, with the first four being a Dog, a Panda, a Narwhal and a Leopard. The cubes are coloured differently for each set with the clip being the same for each tag. But these wouldn’t be DOTS sets without a little artistic customisation.

Each of the sets includes a collection of DOTS jewels or 1×1 tiles if you prefer. These are a mixture of circles, quarter circles, half-circles, squares and depending on the creature, elements such as cheese slopes and outside bows. But the most impressive of the tiles are the printed ones. These are relevant to each animal and include eyes and mouths, as well as others featuring things like bubbles, bones, fur patterns and bamboo.

You can also add elements from other LEGO DOTS kits, bracelets or Extra packs. The Series 4 Extra DOTS are also themed around creatures making them the perfect companion to the Bag Tags. I’m not sure how secure the various elements will be on the Bag Tag cubes when you’re out and about, especially the outside bows, but saying that I use to wear a DOTS bracelet at work and never lost a tile. The actual cube won’t be going anywhere as the new clips are very secure. The Bag Tags are a fun addition to the DOTS range and cheap enough to grab if you just want some of the neat little tiles. Plus they make cool ‘fuzzy dice’ for hanging from your car’s rearview mirror.
