LEGO Considering A Rental Service

Renting LEGO® sets is not a new concept, but it is something that the LEGO Group themselves are looking into. Tim Brooks, who is vice-president responsible for sustainability at the LEGO Group told the Financial Times that the company were open to the idea. He added “But it has to come down to the value proposition, we have to start at the point that says what is in it for the consumer. That is what we are just unpicking at moment. It is possible, there are some technical barriers.”

A LEGO rental service is one of many ideas LEGO are considering as it moves to increase substantially and value the LEGO brick can provide. Renting LEGO sets may seem like a great idea, especially if you can afford some of the larger set but still want to experience the build. However the logistics behind providing high piece count sets and getting them back complete could prove tricky.

  1. The most stupid idea ever! Who’ll want to rent Lego that’s been man handled by God knows who? Put in places where Lego shouldn’t be inserted and covered in germs…

This sounds like the type of dumb idea raised in a brainstorming session by people who don’t live in the real world. Probably the same twits who came up with “Rebuild the World!”
