With the second LEGO® CON event just days away, the line-up for the virtual event has been shared by the LEGO Group. Over the past few weeks, they have been sharing various teases so this brings them all together. During LEGO CON, there will be various product reveals including a new Marvel Studios set, rumoured to be Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum. The first look at new LEGO Super Mario sets and the full reveal of the new LEGO Avatar theme. 1. I hate being critical of something that I don’t believe is aimed at me. But, with LEGO Con 2022, I’m not really sure who the intended audience is? And, I don’t like the hype. Bah humbug!

Last time there was quite a bit of backlash, aimed at the AFOL community, from LEGO news outlets, that quite clearly understood that the event was aimed at a younger audience. But, those obvious lines of demarcation seem very blurry this time?

The pre-event publicity doesn’t seem to focus on a younger audience. In deed, the event strap says: “ LEGO CON is for anyone who loves the brick…”

I won’t watch live. The event last year put me off. I’ll catch up and skip through until I find the content that interests me. I’m not expecting Earth-shattering news or breathtaking reveals. Nor am I expecting Fabuland to be brought back either!

    • It is in no way aimed at AFOLs they has been made plainly clear this time around. The intended audience are families with youngish kids. The tag this time is the cringey ‘fam-tastic event’ there will be means to provide thoughts after the event airs. However, although not aimed at AFOLs the new product reveals will be of some interest even though they are for themes aimed at younger age ranges.

      • I like the idea that it’s aimed at family audiences. Building with younger members of the family always brings joy by learning together. And, I personally love watching the enthusiasm of my grandchildren when they show me their latest creation, whilst giving a very detailed description of it.

LEGO Con promises a lot and I hope it can deliver? I’m sure it will have both enthusiastic supporters and critical detractors.
