The Marvel Studios panel is currently taking place at San Diego Comic-Con and the future of the MCU has been revealed, through a series of new movie and TV shows. With Avengers: Endgame becoming the highest grossing movie of all-new time, its’ safe to assume the LEGO Group will continue their lucrative partnership with Disney. So although there aren’t any confirmed LEGO® sets or product lines, many of these newly announced properties could inspire future sets.
First up is The Eternals, coming in November 2020. This will expand upon the cosmic side of the MCU and would be ripe for some cool new Minifigures and interesting sets.
This will be followed by Shang-Chi & The Legend of the Ten Rings. This arrives in February 2021 and will introduce a new sort of hero to the MCU as well as the return of the Mandarin.
Also in 2021 will be a sequel to Doctor Strange, called Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Although the first film only gave us one set, this latest outing could expand a little further on that.
The God of Thunder returns in a fourth movie, the first for any of the original solo Avengers. For Thor Love & Thunder, much of the cast return from Ragnarok so fingers crossed for a Korg BigFig and maybe even a Jane Foster Thor Minifigure! Thor Love & Thunder arrives in November 2021.
But before all of those Black Widow stars in her own solo movie. Hopefully this will lead to an more female heavy spread of Minifigure, should we get sets based on the movie. Which arrives in May 2020.
Other Marvel Studios titles briefly touched upon include Black Panther 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 and Captain Marvel 2 but more excitingly BLADE and FANTASTIC FOUR! These will all offer up some great Minifigures at the very least.
Disney+ will be a key platform for the MCU going forward and a great source of inspiration for future LEGO products. Marvel shows confirmed for the new streaming service include Loki, WandaVision, Falcon & the Winter Soldier and Hawkeye. But one of the best suited shows for LEGO sets is coming to Disney+ in Summer 2021. What if?…. is the first animated MCU show and will delve into alternate histories of the MCU. For example what if Peggy Carter became Captain America. Just imagine the Minifigures that show could inspire!
Although none of these new projects confirm any future LEGO products, it’s safe to say many will certainly inspire them. Who are you most excited to see get the LEGO treatment?
