Exploring The LEGO Piece Garden

As the LEGO® Piece Garden opened to the public today, last night BricksFanz London correspondent Robin Hull, did some pottering in the brick-filled exhibition. The LEGO Piece Garden is a collaboration between the LEGO Group and It’s That Nice, which has been created for the London Design Festival. As the name suggests the installation is inspired by the various botanical-themed LEGO sets, which have seen LEGO elements used to recreate flowers and plants. As well as showcasing some of these sets, the Piece Garden is an ever-evolving space, where visitors are encouraged to get creative and help the LEGO Flower Wall grow with brick-built blooms. For those who may lack green thumbs when it comes to building LEGO plants, there are artists on hand to help your creativity grow. The artists in residence have also created unique LEGO artwork for the event. The LEGO Piece Garden is free to visit and is open daily until Sunday, September 24th. Learn more about the event here. Thanks to LEGO UK for inviting us along and thanks to Robin for popping along.

  1. A really interesting collaboration between LEGO and Its Nice That! which coincides with the London Design Festival. Before the press preview I was lucky to have observed a workshop facilitated by the artist in residence, Alec Doherty. The attendees undertook a series of creative activities which culminated in each of them designing a flower from a brief printed on a card.

It was refreshing to see adults letting go of their inhibitions and, quite literally, playing and building with LEGO. Their endeavours resulted in some pretty wild designs.

I spoke with Will Knight who is the creative director for Its Nice That! He was thrilled and excited for the project and looked forward to seeing for himself what fabulous creations attendees could think up over the course of the event.

If you are in London I urge you to pop over to Shoreditch and have a blooming good time!

Of course, catching up with LEGO Master’s Melvin Odoom was a treat in itself!
