With Build To Give back for the festive season of 2020, later this month there will be a series of LEGO® livestreams taking place on the LEGO YouTube channel. Each live stream will have a different theme and will help inspire you to build a LEGO creation you can share on social media. For each LEGO creation built and shared with the #BuildtoGive, the LEGO Group will donate a LEGO set to kids who need them the most at this time of year. Here in the UK, Fairy Bricks will be one of the charity partners helping to get the sets where they are needed. Learn more below.
THE LEGO GROUP BUILDS CHRISTMAS SPIRIT ONE BRICK AT A TIME
#BuildtoGive turns family fun into gifts of play for a million children around the world
#BuildtoGive livestreams will take place on the LEGO Group YouTube channel in November and December
[November 6th 2020, UK] Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, but for many children, it doesn’t always come with the same excitement. That’s why for the fourth year running, the LEGO Group is encouraging families to get creative and give the gift of play to a child-in-need, simply by making a Christmas ornament out of LEGO® bricks as part of its Rebuild the World campaign’s #BuildtoGive activity.
For every Christmas creation shared on social media using the hashtag #BuildtoGive, the LEGO Group will donate a LEGO set to a child-in-need giving up to one million children in hospitals, children’s homes or vulnerable communities globally the chance to play this holiday season.
Here in the UK, the LEGO Group is working with charities including Body and Soul Charity, Community Links and Fairy Bricks to bring playful experiences to children who need them.
It’s easy to get involved and spread some festive goodwill. Families simply need to build a fun, festive ornament or decoration out of LEGO bricks, take a photo of it and share it on social media or LEGO Life using the hashtag #BuildToGive before the end of December. And with the LEGO Play Well study finding that over 9 in 10 parents say play helps them relax as a family[1], taking part in #BuildtoGive could offer families a great way to get into the festive spirit this year.
From beautiful baubles to rocking rocket sleigh decorations, any design is welcome, but inspiration can be found by tuning into one of three #BuildtoGive livestreams hosted by LEGO designers, or downloading one of the easy-to-follow building instruction packs from LEGO.com/BuildToGive.

- 17th November 2020 at 20:00 GMT – Animal theme
- 4th December 2020 at 16:00 GMT – Art and Crafts theme
- 11th December at 16:00 GMT – Festive theme
Kathrine Kirk Muff, Vice President of Social Responsibility at the LEGO Group, says: “Christmas is a time for giving and receiving, but it can be a very tough time for children in difficult circumstances. That’s why we’re proud to have donated over 1.5 million LEGO sets to children-in-need through #BuildtoGive over the last three years. But we couldn’t do it without joining forces with others; we’re always inspired by how creative children get when building to support a good cause, and are excited to continue working with generous families and our amazing partner organisations to bring the gift of play to even more children this year.”
The #BuildtoGive campaign is just one example of how the LEGO Group gives children-in-need access to play through a range of activities with partners and the LEGO Foundation. The programmes provide children with opportunities to develop life-long skills such as problem solving, collaboration and communication through play. By 2022, the LEGO Group aims to reach 8 million children around the world annually with learning through play.
