This week marks the cinema release of Disney’s Wish, the 62nd animated feature from Walt Disney Animation Studios. The film is set in the magical kingdom of Rosas. The king of Rosas holds the power to grant wishes to his subject but things are not not as magical as they seem and Asha must protect the magic of wishing. As the film is being released in the same year as Disney celebrates its 100th anniversary, the film is filled with references to past Disney classics. The film has also inspired a trio of new LEGO® Disney sets, featuring characters and locations from the film. Here’s a look at all three sets, which are available now.
43223: Asha in the City of Rosas
This smallest of the sets inspired by Disney’s Wish also happens to be one of the most impressive. This is largely due to the set featuring the film’s three main characters – Asha, Star and Valentino the Goat. Asha is portrayed as a mini-doll, with her two side-kick chums being unique new pieces. Star as the name suggests is a star-like creature, this is a brand new element which nicely captures the appearance of the characters. The term ‘LEGO Goat’ holds an immense power within the LEGO community and although this set doesn’t bring back the fabled creature element it does introduce a new creature mould, which matches the style of the character. The set features a section of a building found in the city of Rosa, which has a Southern European feel to it.

43221: Asha’s Cottage
The next set in the LEGO Disney’s Wish range is Asha Cottage. This set features three mini-dolls including Sakina, who is Asha’s mother and Sabino, Asha’s grandfather. Unfortunately, these characters suffer a little by being portrayed as mini-dolls, especially Sabino. Still, he’s wearing a great outfit, which is actually enhanced by being a mini-doll body. Asha and Star are both the same as they appear in all three sets. For me, the build and appearance of the cottage make this set the best of the bunch. I love the way the cottage is shaped and how much detail it contains despite being a fairly compact set. This is also the only set to feature a separate build, with a small wishing well included.

43224: King Magnifico’s Castle
The largest of the sets inspired by Disney’s Wish is the grand palace of Rosa’s malevolent and awesomely named King Magnifico. His castle plays a key role in the film as it’s where Asha goes to become the king’s apprentice and is also the stronghold in which the king hoards the people’s greatest wishes. The set is created in four sections, which means the set is great for those who like to build in groups or over a few days. Although bigger, it feels less detailed compared to the cottage. But the details it does feature are unique. These include mirror-effect stickers on several elements, the best of which are used to create a mirror and a portrait of the king. The most impressive section of the castle is the tower, not only does it feature the room in which the wish spheres are kept, but it also uses a unique flexible panel for the roof. Joining Asha and Star are two unique mini-dolls. Dahlia is another character who doesn’t fair too well in mini-doll form. She’s a baker so I assume the black accessory she is holding is a rolling pin, but it looks like a police baton. Although some of the characters featured as mini-dolls are the best representation of their on-screen appearances, King Magnifico is one impressive mini-doll. His outfit is great and his a cloak which has a different design on each side.
