A Look At LEGO… Space Aliens

This year has seen multiple sets across several themes celebrate space, dubbing 2024 the Year of LEGO® Space. The LEGO Group has a long history with space, thanks to the Apollo Moon Mission. Space exploration inspired one of the earliest LEGO themes. But the recent space-based endeavours haven’t sought to reimagine or remake classic space sets, instead, they each offer a series of space-inspired builds. Apart from the common thread of being space-related and the familiar space branding, the sets are mostly unrelated. But there is something which unites them beyond simply being space-themed – a race of friendly aliens. You may have noticed the little green life forms popping up in many different sets, including LEGO City, LEGO Friends, DUPLO and even LEGO Art. I thought it would be fun to get the gang together as we take a look at the LEGO Space Aliens or Little Green Lifeforms.

It’s rather unusual for multiple themes to be connected in the way the LEGO Space Collection has. The LEGO Space branding is currently being used on sets from themes including LEGO Technic, LEGO Creator 3-in-1, LEGO Art, LEGO Friends, LEGO Classic, LEGO DUPLO, LEGO DREAMZzz, LEGO City and LEGO Minifigures.

Most of the Little Green Lifeforms can be found in the LEGO City Space sets. They can be found in several sets but appear in different forms depending on the set. There are three different versions of the aliens which can be found in various LEGO City sets. These Aliens can be found in LEGO City sets 60429: Spaceship and Asteroid Discovery, 60431: Space Explorer Rover and Alien Life, 60432: Command Rover and Crane Loader, 60433: Modular Space Station, 60434: Space Base and Rocket Launchpad & 60439: Space Science Lab

LEGO Friends

It’s not just the explorers of LEGO City discovering new life forms. The Heartlake City gang have also been blasting off on their own space adventures. Their early mission saw them discover the same Little Green Lifeforms, but a recent mission has seen them uncover a blue version. These Aliens can be found in LEGO Friends sets 42605: Mars Space Base and Rocket & 42602: Space Research Rover.

LEGO Minifigures

The 26th series of collectable LEGO Minifigures is completely inspired by space and one of the characters is just a normal minifigure and not a minifigure-shaped robot piloted by Little Green Lifeforms. Over in the ‘Build a Minifigure’ range, one of the custom characters shows an evolved form of the Little Green Lifeforms who have now joined LEGO Space Crew in their research missions. These characters can be found in LEGO Minifigures Series 26 & the current Space BAM range.

In this space-themed brick box, you can build all sorts of different things including a green alien creature. Using the various bricks in the Creative Space Planets set, you can also create different versions of the space-faring creature. This Alien can be found in LEGO Classic set 11037: Creative Space Planets.

You wouldn’t expect to find one of these Little Green Lifeforms in this particular set. LEGO Art is known for crafting unique pieces of artwork using LEGO elements but as you build the colourful Milky Way galaxy, you notice a small green element which gets hidden within the wider image and introduces another version of the similar alien. This Alien can be found in LEGO Art set 31212: The Milky Way Galaxy.

Even younger LEGO builders can join in the space-themed fun. The Space Shuttle Adventure set features a simple rocket but it also includes another unique Little Green Lifeform. The DUPLO Alien is just as cheery as its smaller friends. This Alien can be found in LEGO DUPLO set 10422: 3in1 Space Shuttle Adventure.
