To mark the UK opening of Marvel Studio’s Black Panther, we’ve taking a trip to Wakanda for our latest A Look At LEGO®…. special feature. Despite only having a short venture in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Panther has already had an impressive LEGO career. Long before appearing in a LEGO set, T’Challa made his debut in digital form as part of the first LEGO Marvel video game. Since then the defender of Wakanda has appeared in various LEGO sets, additional LEGO Games and will soon star in his animated LEGO mini movie. So let’s take A Look At LEGO…. Black Panther.
Back in 2013, TT Games released their first LEGO Games titles based within the Marvel universe. Among the 180 plus playable characters available in the game was Black Panther. Although a major character within the game, it would make T’Challa’s first LEGO outing. Black Panther could be unlocked in one of the games many side quests and after tracking down the elusive Mr Tiddles, Black Panther would become a playable character.
2016 would be a big year for Black Panther, now only did he make his big screen debut in Captain America: Civil War, he would also make his second LEGO Games appearance and his LEGO sets debut. The first of which was released in March 2016 as part of the sets based on Civil War. Set 76047: Black Panther Pursuit including a newly redesigned minifigure version of Black Panther, which used a new element to represent the Black Panther outfits face covering. The set also included Black Panther’s jet along with Captain America and the Winter Soldier.
During San Diego Comic Con, LEGO introduced their collectable new sets called BrickHeadz. During SDCC a number of exclusive BrickHeadz double packs were made available, one of which included Black Panther. This unique version of T’Challa has only been available in BrickHeadz form in this extremely limited set.
2016 would also see Black Panther return in TT Games’ second Marvel-themed video game and in an expanded role. Instead of just being a playable character, Black Panther starred in one of the games’s Season Pass Character and Level Packs. Although he appeared in the main game in his new minifigure form, the Season Pass content was based on the comic book version of T’Challa. 
This year Black Panther returns in two new sets, both based on the newly released Black Panther movie from Marvel Studios and Disney. Both sets feature Black Panther minifigures, both of which are unique to each set. 76100: Royal Talon Fighter Attack and 76099: Rhino Face-off by the mine are both available now.
Coming to LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 this week, will be the second Level Pack for the Season Pass. This is based on the movie and introduces a number of new playable characters to the game along with an all-new level to play through. The Black Panther Movie Level and Characters Packs can be downloaded as part of the Season Pass or purchases separately.
Finally it was announced during New York Comic Con that Black Panther would be getting his own animated mini movie called Trouble in Wakanda. No additional details have been revealed but previous LEGO Marvel mini movies have appeared on Marvel Kids, YouTube and on Disney XD, so expect LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Black Panther: Trouble in Wakanda to appear shortly.
