Joining the recently revealed LEGO® Disney DuckTales BrickHeadz set is another duck-themed set in the form of Daisy Duck. Although she’s a fellow duck, it didn’t seem fair to lump her into with Scrooge and co. However, it did make sense to pair Daisy with her hot-headed partner Donald. He will be reunited with his love come June 1st when the new Daisy Duck BrickHeadz set is released. So here’s a closer look at them both.
With the format of BrickHeadz played around with quite a lot in recent times, both Donald and Daisy are quite simplistic. They both follow the more traditional build style. However, due to the nature of the characters original appearance, their outer detailing is certainly a little less busy than other characters. This is not a bad thing as it helps to transplant the cartoon-look into the BrickHeadz format perfectly.
Donald has uniquely printed elements to achieve his famous sailor suit attire, whereas Daisy’s outfit simply uses the relevant coloured bricks, with minimal print to show the neckline. The most detailed parts of both characters are their headwear. Donald’s sailor hat isn’t the easiest thing to recreate with LEGO bricks, especially on such a small scale, but the designers have managed to pull it off. By comparison, Daisy’s large bow is far more detailed, with various bows and plates combined to create it. There is a slight issue with the element in the bow, although it is tricky to see in the images, a couple of the bows plates are a slightly different pink from the other elements. It’s very noticeable in the correct light and due to the prominence of the bow.
Both characters are as iconic as Mickey and Minnie, so it’s nice that Daisy has finally been released to join Donald. As with many classic Disney characters featured in the Mickey & Friends gang, they have been redesigned a great deal over the year. This is one of the good things about BrickHeadz, their highly stylised appearance can represent the essence of the characters from across the generations and appeal to multiple fans. I’ve made my love of BrickHeadz very clear and each new one is a great addition to the collection, although these characters aren’t particularly detailed by the nature of their source material I still like that the Disney range is ever-expanding.
