Although not officially released until February 1st, many retailers have started to sell the new series of LEGO® Minifigures already. You may have see from the official images of the minifigures, that the packaging has been changed for The LEGO Movie 2 Minifigure Series, so I grabbed a couple of bags to see what all the fuss is about. There has been a great change to the packaging for this new series of Minifigures, the older style packets have been replaced with completely new bags. These are made from different material and are slightly bigger than past packets.
The elements inside are also packed in a completely new way. You’ll find a smaller, clear bag inside the outer bag which features some elements, and depending on the character, other parts are loose in the bag. For example for Dorothy Gale, her head, hair, legs and torso are in the clear bag, with the baseplate and material skirt loose in the bag. Same with Crayon Girl, head, legs and torso in one bag and the Crayon suit and baseplate loose in the bag.
VP of Design, Matthew Ashton has stated on Twitter that production has been moved from a Chinese supplier to internally, so packaging has had to change due to existing production line.
These are now produced internally rather than with our supplier in China, the bags needed to be changed so we could use existing packing equipment on the production line.
The leaflet is also different, printed on slightly thinner paper than before and a slightly different paper format. I’ve seen some people complaining about this, but to be fair you buy these for the Minifigures not the tick sheet. One thing I will say is that they are very easy to feel the characters inside now.
