76259: Batman Construction Figure Review

The concept of buildable figures was reintroduced last year and up until now has transformed various Marvel heroes into buildable action figures dubbed Construction Figures. With the upcoming Flash movie set to bring Michael Keaton’s Batman back, it’s finally seen the Dark Knight’s return to the world of LEGO. Batman becomes the first DC-themed buildable figure of the new range and ahead of the set’s release next month, here’s a closer look at the Batman Construction Figure.

Batman has an instantly recognisable appearance regardless of which era he’s from. The fear-inducing cowl, flowing cape and muscle-sculpting suit all combine to create the iconic hero Gotham needs but doesn’t deserve. This particular version of The Dark Knight is inspired by Tim Burton’s take on Batman’s story.

As this version of the Batsuit is all black in colour, some of the joint pieces, which are grey, blend into the build a lot better than other characters. There’s only a slight slither of brick yellow found on both legs. But the rest of the suit is really well done, especially the use of curved roofs to add muscle definition to the torso and the 1×1 quarter tiles recreating the abs.

As with all these buildable characters, they are a limit to how they can be moved, but there are points of articulation including the waist, legs, arms and head. Together you can pose Batman in various ways. This was one of the most fun sets to photograph as you can see from the photos.

Overall

With each of these construction action figures I build, I admire them even more. They are all built from a similar base design but this is tweaked in clever ways to perfectly suit the characters they represent. That’s even more so the case with Batman, the suit makes the character and it’s been expertly recreated in this set. The unique plate for the head combined with a few other elements perfectly become that iconic cowl. The layering of elements and printed pieces work so much better than any of the other similar sets. Of course, the large material cape finishes off the look. The Construction Figures may seem like they are not very ‘LEGO like’ but they do use far more traditional bricks than past buildable figures have. So if you’ve had even the slightest temptation to build one of the Construction Figures, I’d highly recommend Batman. I prefer the Marvel movies to the recent offerings of DC Comics, but I have to say this is a fun return for the Dark Knight. Plus I had rather too much fun coming up with the various poses you can find in this review.
