10793: Spidey Vs. Green Goblin Set Review

The animated adventures of Spider-Man have introduced an array of Spider-themed vehicles with some of the more unusual offerings found in Spidey and his Amazing Friends. This Spider-Man-themed show is aimed at younger viewers and the animation style has given these vehicles a sort of Kawaii-style appearance. The latest of Spidey’s rides to be transformed into a LEGO 4+ set is the Hover Spinner, which a young Peter Parker uses to take on the Green Goblin. Here’s an early look at the Spidey vs. Green Goblin set.

Green Goblin is known for his love of hoverboard transportation and here he’s sporting an impressively large glider. This purple and green flyer is certainly more substantial compared to some of his previous LEGO attempts. The base of the glider uses one of the many 4+ Starter Bricks.

As mentioned in the intro, across many of the LEGO Spider-Man sets, the Webbed Wonder is often seen piloting some sort of random vehicle. It still makes very little sense why someone who can swing between buildings needs vehicles, but if every set simply featured Spider-Man and some web rope they wouldn’t be much fun to play with. At least the vehicle in this set is quite cool. It’s dubbed a Hover Spinner, which is best described as the cockpit of a helicopter which is mounted on a hover pillow. The piece used for the base of the vehicle has previously been featured in the LEGO Education SPIKE Prime sets. The Hover Spinner also borrows another element from another theme, with the golden-coloured propeller blade previously found in the NINJAGO sets. The transparent blue panel which acts as the cover for the vehicle cockpit, features the spider symbol and yes its printed, continue the 4+ sets avoidance of stickers.

Along with the two vehicles, the set also features a small piece of random scenery. This is a pier-like platform, it’s a very basic build and in all honesty, offers little to the set overall, but I guess it slightly enhances the playability of the set as well as loosely connecting to Spidey’s water-based Hover Spinner.

The set features three different minifigure characters including two new versions of previous characters and one of those is unique to this set. Green Goblin is the most common of the characters, the same version of the character has appeared in three other Spidey sets, all of which are now retired. The character has two different expressions, although one looks as though he’s crying but it’s just the lines of this menacing grin. Spidey offers a new version of the character wearing his ‘Web-Spinners’ suit which is similar to the ‘Spin’ version of Miles. So Spidey’x suit is also trimmed with gold, making it look similar to the MCU Iron Spider suit. Finally, Ghost Spider has appeared in many of the Spidey sets, but this version offers a unique take on the character. Not only is she wearing her gold-trimmed Web-Spinners suit, but the character reuses the Man-Bat torso giving Ghost Spider a pair of white wings. It’s only a small change compared to the normal version of the character but it’s nice to get something unique.
