10792: Spidey Drill Spinner Vehicle Set Review

Spider-Man continues to be a much-loved Marvel character and the characters connected to the Spider-Man universe have been used in many different ways. For younger Marvel fans, the character is affectionately known as Spidey and along with his amazing friends, he stars in an animated series on Disney Junior and Disney+. The TV show has inspired several Spidey and His Amazing Friends playsets which fall under the 4+ banner. Three new sets will be released this March and kicking off the reviews of those new sets is the rather plainly named Drill Spinner Vehicle.

The 4+ range offers easy-to-build sets, the result of this is simplistic builds, uniquely printed elements and expanded instructions which break the build process down making them easier to follow. They also feature something known as Starter Bricks, with this set including a base for the Drill Spinner vehicle. The vehicle matches the colour scheme of Miles or Spin, with mostly black elements trimmed with gold and red. The bonnet of the vehicle includes a printed slope featuring Miles’ spider symbol. It’s a basic set but something which would be fun to play with.

The focus of the set is the vehicle, but it also features a set of traffic lights, which are connected to Electro and enable her to charge her powers. Miles’ web powers are represented by a gold-coloured web dome and Electro includes a lighting bolt sword.

The sets may not appeal to older LEGO fans, but the minifigures could tempt them. This set features two characters both of whom are new for this wave of sets. Miles Morales has previously appeared in Spidey sets, but for these sets, he is known as ‘Spin’ and his suit is trimmed with gold. He’s joined by Electro, a character who is mostly portrayed as a male but is female in this set. This could represent the Francine Frye, version of the villain, although her origin story is certainly not suitable for the set’s target audience. The minifigure is quite simple but has a new hairpiece which also features her mask. As most of the main characters are shown to be younger, their minifigures in the 4+ sets, feature short legs.
