Since the prolonged delay and release of LEGO® Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, the LEGO Group’s gaming offers have vastly changed. As the architects of modern LEGO games, TT Games were the main providers of LEGO-themed games, inspired by popular films and LEGO themes. These days, the pool of developers who provide LEGO titles has expanded, resulting in a wider array of digital LEGO experiences. Here’s what’s still to come from LEGO Games.
TT Games – Unannounced LEGO Title
Although other developers can now create LEGO games, TT Games is still working on an unannounced LEGO Game. Back in 2022, TT Games were hiring for what was described as ‘an exciting new LEGO game based on a major IP’. In the time since, WB Games has reorganised its gaming divisions to focus solely on Warner Bros. IP. TT Games has long been rumoured to be working on a LEGO Harry Potter similar in scale to LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
Light Brick Studio
Originally founded as an ‘in-house’ studio, Light Brick Studio became an independent developer soon after the release of its first LEGO title, A Builder’s Journey. Their second title, LEGO Voyagers, was announced at Summer Game Fest. This takes place in a similar world to their first game and is a two-player game about adventure and friendship. The game will include a Friend Pass so two players can play together with only one copy of the game. It’s expected to be released later this year. That’s not the only new content to come from Light Brick. A Builder’s Journey is getting a major update called ‘Robot’s Adventure’. This covers happened before, during, and after the events of LEGO Builder’s Journey. The update is now available for Apple Arcade players and is expected to be added to other platforms soon.
LEGO Party!
Also announced during Summer Game Fest was a brand new title called LEGO Party! This LEGO-themed party game is similar to the long-running Mario Party games and will offer over 60 mini-games, inspired by classic LEGO themes and characters. Early previews of the game have given the game glowing reviews. LEGO Party! is being developed by SMG Games and is due to be released later this year.
StoryToys
StoryToys has created app-based LEGO games inspired by LEGO DUPLO characters and sets for a number of years. Their latest app will be inspired by Bluey. The StoryToys DUPLO games are focused on offering simple but fun experiences for younger fans. StoryToys has also taken over the development of LEGO Friends Heartlake Rush. The Friends-themed endless running was recently updated to reflect the changes to the LEGO theme it’s inspired by.
LEGO Fortnite
Following an investment in Epic Games, the LEGO Group has formed and long-running partnership with the creators of Fortnite. The result has been the introduction of the LEGO Fortnite platform within Fortnite. Since the introduction of the survival game, Odyssey, LEGO Fortnite has also introduced a life-sim game called Brick Life and LEGO Islands, which features a series of minigames. The most recent update added LEGO Expeditions, which is due to be expanded over the next few months. Epic also added the LEGO Brick Editor to the Unreal Editor for Fortnite. This will allow budding developers to create LEGO experiences for LEGO Fortnite.
Asphalt Legends Unite X LEGO Technic
Gameloft’s popular free-to-play racer, Asphalt Legends Unite, continues to add LEGO content to the game. You can unlock LEGO Technic vehicles through in-game events and via codes found in recently released LEGO Technic sets.
You may remember that the LEGO Group and 2K Games announced the intention to create LEGO titles under the 2K Sports brand. Since the release of LEGO 2K Drive, a football game called LEGO 2K Goooal! was rumoured and all but confirmed due to the existence of a LEGO polybag and PlayStation Store product listing. Ever since, there has been no mention of this game or any other LEGO titles from 2K, suggesting the partnership has concluded after the poor reception of LEGO 2K Drive.
