LEGO® Stores have been offering buildable minifigures for several years, but it’s only recently that they have started to create unique elements and themed characters. They have also started to be released regularly, as well as being offered in pre-built packs. Affectionately known as BAM or Build a Minifigure, the latest characters to hit stores are themed around Halloween. Here’s a closer look at the three spooky minifigures now available in LEGO Stores.
Ghostly Ghoul
The Ghostly Ghoul is an interesting minifigure. It appears to be inspired by a ghostly figure from the Victorian era. The entirety white figure is decorated with grey detail on both the torso and dress base. These pair nicely with a white coloured hood element. Despite Ghostly Ghoul being a spirit, she’s joined by a ghostly companion. A recoloured splat element features a spooky face. It’s a fun use of the part, which is mostly used for puddles of water.
Mummified Man
Mummies have appeared in many sets, but they are normally quite plain, relying on print detail on the head, torso and legs to show it’s bandaged state. The Mummified Man still does that, with great detail on the head. The use of brick yellow for the torso and legs also highlights the other bandages. But it’s the use of a bandaged head cap which really makes this mummy-like character stand out. The same piece has previously been used in hospital sets but works just a well as part of a Mummy costume. The Mummified Man is joined by a black cat. It seems like it would make more sense to be partnered with the Little Witch, but there’s an Egyptian link between cats and Mummies.
Little Witch
The BAM characters have a habit of introducing recoloured variants of previously used elements. The Little Witch uses a recoloured version of the witches’ hat first seen in the Hocus Pocus set. This loses the detail on the hat but switches the hair colour to orange. The Little Witch also has a unique Halloween-themed torso with the same design included on the skirt piece. Oddly, the design is vampire-themed, but it’s still quite cool, especially the dress.
Due to the lack of LEGO stores in or near Leicester, I have to get my minifigures from my BAM dealer, Robin. So a big thanks to Robin for grabbing these for me. They aren’t the only new BAM characters to be found in stores; another collection of unique characters has started to appear in stores now.
