This year marks the 20th anniversary of the LEGO® Batman theme, and the latest LEGO title from DK Books features many of the minifigures and sets from the theme. The upcoming LEGO Batman book showcases some of the Capes Crusaders sets and minifigures. It’s not as in-depth as the encyclopedia-type books, but it does include an exclusive new minifigure. Here’s an early look at the LEGO DC Batman Adventures in Gotham book and its unique minifigure character.

The book doesn’t offer an in-depth look at various DC sets or minifigures. Instead, it uses them to tell a vague story of Batman’s adventures around Gotham. Many of the images are similar to the product images used on LEGO.com. The images are accompanied by flashes of text that highlight some of Batman’s scraps, face-offs, and gadgets. But the book really plays second fiddle to its exclusive minifigure.
Normally, these sorts of ‘story’ led LEGO Books to include a fairly generic minifigure. But that’s certainly not the case here. The book includes a Joker-inspired Batsuit. There have been a few occasions in the comics where similar outfits have been donned by Bruce Wayne or Joker, but this version doesn’t appear to be based on any particular Batman/Joker moment. It does share similarities with the Joker’s Batsuit from The Joker War story. It uses the new style bat-cowl, which includes ‘built-in’ eyes, removing the need for the strange headband on the head of older LEGO Batman minifigures. Much of the suit is Joker’s trademark purple, but it does include some Joker-themed graffiti. The use of the standard Joker head suggests this is Joker dressed as a version of Batman, as opposed to Batman dressing up in a Joker-themed disguise.
