Thanks to Brick-a-brac, many of the new 2025 promotional LEGO® sets are now readily available. Commonly known as polybags among LEGO fans, they are now packaged in paper-based bags. So technically they are now longer polybags, but ‘paper bags’ doesn’t sound right although they are officially known as recruitment bags. Regardless of their packaging, these minisets are inspired by various LEGO themes and offer little tasters of larger sets.
You can find a selection of the new LEGO polybags released this year from online retailer Brick-a-brac, with more due to be added to the range shortly. After looking at some of the entertainment-focused sets, here’s a look at some of the other 2025 LEGO Polybags. These are inspired by original themes including LEGO City, LEGO Creator, LEGO Technic, LEGO DUPLO and LEGO Botanicals.
30686: My First Flower & Bee
Despite only featuring seven DUPLO bricks, the set offers three ‘different’ builds. All of these are variations of happy Bumble Bees and flowers or fruits. It’s hard to tell exactly what the different configurations of the red and green bricks are. Still, it’s a fun little set for younger LEGO fans.
30688: Tropical Toucan
The larger Creator 3-in-1 sets offer a surprisingly decent array of buildable critters. This smaller set offers a slightly less impressive build. The lead model is a cartooney toucan bird perched on a log, complete with a small red flower. The same pieces can then be used to build a fish or a very basic penguin, which hardly uses any of the elements. The toucan is certainly the best of the three buildable animals. 30689: Birthday Party Animals
This is the second time a Creator miniset has paired animals and parties. This time it’s the turn of a monkey and giraffe to celebrate. Both creatures are fairly simple builds but it’s the monkey which is odd. The way the arms are built to cross over it’s head feels odd due to the gap between the jumper plates. The party vibes are shown via a party hat, cake and present. It’s probably the least impressive of the new 2025 minisets.
30691: Mini Monster Truck
The Creator 3-in-1 sets always a lead model plus two alternate builds, all built using the same selection of elements. The lead model for this miniset is monster truck-style vehicle. It reminds me of the die-cast cars such as Matchbox or Hot Wheels. If you prefer, you can opt to build either a small aeroplane or an RC car. 30693: Police Water Scooter
You can’t have LEGO City without some form of police-focused set. This is yet another ‘polybag’ featuring a police watercraft, perfect should a man fall into the city’s river. The minifigure and the boat both feature bright yellow elements, perfectly suited for anything connected to the emergency services. However, it doesn’t offer much over previous, similar sets.
30694: Space Science Mech
Throughout 2024, several themes celebrated Space, including LEGO City. We may be in a new year but space is still the focus of this second City set. It features one of the new style astronauts with green details. The main focus is a small mech walker. It’s a basic build but has articulation points on the arms and legs. The best part of the mech is a transparent printed screen, which sits in front of the minifigure once it’s placed in the mech.
30701: Field Flowers
Despite being part of the Icons theme for a couple of years, buildable LEGO plants are now a separate theme called Botanicals. To welcome the new theme, it gets its first miniset which features three different flowers. They are a little more basic than their counterparts in the larger sets but they still use elements in clever ways to recreate flowers. The set includes three buildable ‘field flowers’ which is an extremely nice way to describe what are essential weeds. They include a stalk of seeding grass. The seed pods are recreated with golden-coloured eggshell elements. The other two flowers are two different stages of the dandelion plant. One is the bright yellow flower, which has been replicated by a pair of Technic gears and one of the new yellow flower elements. The Dandelion is also featured in its seeding state. This pairs brick yellow flower stalks with transparent a series of round tiles with hollow bars to recreate the plant’s famous feathery seeds. It’s a great little set but does look a little sad with just the three plants so you may want to pick up a few bags.
30710: Skid-Steer Loader
Technic minisets are always fun as they often feature working functions. Admittedly, the vehicles are rather basic but the fact they offer a small snippet of the mechanisms found in larger, more complex sets makes up for it. The Skid-Steer Loader includes a simple gear system which allows the digger arm to be moved but twisting the knob at the rear of the set. It’s a decent introduction to the Technic theme.
