When the new LEGO® Star Wars UCS Death Star was revealed, it instantly reminded me of the Family Guy Star Wars special. During the episode, once aboard the Death Star, Peter checks out the mall-like map of the Imperial Battle Station. Which, for some reason, inspired the thought of what stores you would find on the LEGO Death Star? Well, the totally obvious answer is, of course, a LEGO store. Thankfully, the new Death Star features several removable platforms, making them the ideal locations to set up shop.
I chose the floor above the trash compactor, and here are the results of my Death Star Renovation. I used the same elements in the base of the removable section as the starting point for my custom LEGO Store. Adding a few extra plates to the rear of the platform creates a bigger area to build on. I then used elements from set 40574: LEGO Brand Store, released in 2022. The Death Star LEGO Store features a Pick A Brick wall, a selection of boxed sets, and a couple of display units. Even by adding extra plates to the platform, space is still limited, especially in aligning the store with its Imperial surroundings.
Why waste valuable store space for a till point when a friendly Droid can do the job? So the Death Star LEGO Store is manned by the LEGO-themed Droid L3-G0 from the Rebuild the Galaxy sets. The friendly Droid has had a little upgrade with a handy arm and an onboard credits reader.
Sometimes I have the most random of thoughts, and adding a LEGO Store to the super expensive UCS Death Star has to be the most random yet, but it made me chuckle, and each time I walk by the set, seeing a colourful shop nestled among the monotone levels of the Galaxy’s most powerful weapon, it makes me smile. Hopefully, it brings a wry grin to you as well.
The LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series Death Star will be available, minus the LEGO Store, from October 1st for LEGO Insiders members.
