It’s been a while since I’ve published a photo-themed ‘Click & Snap’ feature, but the images are popular when posted on the BricksFanz Instagram account. So here’s an expansion of the recent canine-flavour shot—neatly timed for the start of Crufts, one of the oldest and largest dog shows. One of my favourite things about LEGO® sets is the many animal figures they include. Dogs have appeared in numerous sets, mostly popping up in LEGO City sets, but also accompanying Collectable Minifigures characters and some licensed sets. Although animals feature heavily in LEGO Friends sets, I’m not as much a fan of their cartoony appearance.
One of the first LEGO dogs was a German Shepherd-like one; in recent years, this has been joined by some similar-looking pups. These have also appeared in different colours.
The interesting-looking British bulldog has a face only its mother would love, and a LEGO version has appeared in a couple of different sets.
The smaller French Bulldog is another breed to inspire LEGO versions. These have appeared in sets as well as popping up in a Collectable Minifigure series and the LEGO Store’s Build a Minifigure series.
One of the smallest LEGO dogs is the chihuahua; this pocket-sized pooch first appeared in the 10th series of the LEGO minifigures, with different colours appearing in other sets.
The Golden Retriever is one of the world’s most popular breeds. They are often trained to become guide dogs to assist the visually impaired. In the world of LEGO sets, they have also helped assist the emergency services with variants sporting special jackets. A one-eyed retriever is also in the Marvel Studios minifigures, where Lucky the pizza dog accompanied Kate Bishop.
There are many other LEGO dog figures to enjoy, such as terriers, dachshunds, huskies, and Afghan hounds. Hopefully, one day we’ll get a lurcher, as BricksFanz’s head of blanket comfiness testing needs a LEGO version. What other breeds would you like to see appear in LEGO sets?
