Disney D23 has begun, and day one has been packed with new trailers and announcements. Considering how many of Disney’s films and TV shows inspire various LEGO products, it’s safe to assume much of the news coming out of Anaheim this weekend could inspire future LEGO sets and products.
Marvel Studios
This year is a big one for Marvel Studios. This Christmas will see the Avengers join forces with several other groups from the MCU and beyond in Avengers: Doomsday and see the Marvel universe truly unite. D23 has given us a new trailer for the film, which hits cinemas on December 18th. The film has already inspired a trio of upcoming sets, but it could continue to influence future sets in 2027 and beyond.
Over on Disney+, the conclusion to the WandaVision trilogy got its first look at D23. VisionQuest marks the return of Vision and several other characters who have appeared in different forms across the MCU. What’s great about VisionQuest is that it will see Ultron return, but in ‘human’ form. It’s unlikely there will be any VisionQuest-focused sets, but some characters could pop up in future Marvel sets.
Beyond the trailers, some of the cast for the MCU’s take on the X-Men were revealed. Some of the first mutants to be confirmed include Jean Grey, Cyclops, Rogue, Emma Frost, Professor Charles Xavier, and Storm. Plus Nathaniel Milbury, aka Mr Sinister. The X-Men movie will be released on May 5th, 2028.
Star Wars
In early 2027, Ahsoka returns for a second season. The first season helped unite many of the modern-day Star Wars stories that began in Clone Wars and Rebels. The first season also inspired several LEGO Star Wars sets, so expect to see that continue with some of the LEGO Star Wars releases in 2028.
The other big Star Wars news to come from D23 was the first look at Star Wars: Starfighter. Although that first look was only a logo, Starfighter will explore an entirely new corner of the Star Wars universe. One of the new characters to appear in the film will be Kade Auberon, played by Ryan Gosling. Starfighter takes place 5 years after The Rise of Skywalker. The film’s new worlds, characters and ships will definitely inspire future LEGO Star Wars sets. LEGO Star Wars fans can begin to complain about said sets in May next year.
Disney | Pixar | 20th Century Studios
Animated stories from Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar have increasingly been inspiring LEGO sets, and that will most likely continue with future releases. Some of the new sequels to come from Disney and Pixar include Frozen 3, set to be released in late 2027. Along with Zootopia 3, Coco 2, Lilo & Stitch 2 and The Incredibles 3. New films include Ice Age: Boling Point, a return to the popular Fox film series which now falls under the Disney banner. Plus Ghost Market, a live-action Tangled film and a feature-length Bluey movie. But it’s Disney+ where some of the most interesting things will be heading. There’s going to be a series inspired by Disney’s first-ever character, Oswald and the smash video game series, Kingdom Hearts, is getting an animated series inspired by the games. Kingdom Hearts: The Series could inspire some unique LEGO sets and minifigures. The Simpsons will be hitting the big screen for the second time in The New Simpsons Movie. Springfield’s finest recently return to the world of LEGO and the new film could inspire further sets.
