To keep the audience’s attention, each new Jurassic film introduces bigger, meaner dinosaurs. That’s certainly the case with the upcoming sequel, Jurassic World: Rebirth. However, a continuation of the story which began with Jurassic Park, Rebirth follows a new cast of characters. They are tasked with visiting InGen’s secret research island, where the larger, more formidable dinosaurs are kept. Handily, that means some of those new species have inspired some of the new dinosaur figures featured in the upcoming Jurassic World: Rebirth sets. Here’s a closer look at the Raptor & Titanosaurus Tracking mission set.

The set features two dinosaurs, one is the Raptor. This fan favourite dino has had a makeover, or some might say as ‘make under’. The older version of the Raptor was much bigger and had movable limbs. The new version is much smaller and a single element with nothing but a moving mouth. The same dinosaur is also found in set 76972. The second dinosaur is much more exciting. The Titanosaurus is one of the biggest dinosaurs ever discovered and is similar in scale to a Brachiosaurus but has a longer, whip-like tail. The same can be said for the LEGO version of it. The body and neck are the same moulds as the LEGO Brachiosaurus figure, but it has a unique head and tail. These make it appear more menacing, but they are herbivores, so I doubt they will be munching on anybody in the upcoming film.
One thing the Jurassic World sets are known for is their cool dinosaur figures, but they also offer a vast fleet of vehicles. These are often connected to those used by the operators of the various Jurassic attractions and admin sites. The set features two vehicles, and one is the most unique to be found in a set yet. They include a simple red motorbike, which is the newer style of bikes which have a frame clad in an outer shell. The second vehicle is a cool Jurassic World go-kart. It has a similar colour scheme to other vehicles found in Jurassic World sets, but the actual vehicle is unique. It can pull a small trailer, which features a tracking satellite, weapons and a removable tranq dart case. The set also features a small drone, which can be mounted on the set and vehicles via a clear curved rod.
You may be thinking the inclusion of a petrol/gas station on an abandoned dinosaur-infested island seems odd. I certainly did, but the latest Jurassic World: Rebirth trailer does show an overgrown petrol/gas station, and from the brief flashes shown, it seems like the LEGO version is quite a decent recreation. The white, green and yellow colouring of the building is certainly an odd choice for a jungle setting. The building is mostly complete, but I like how gaps have been left between bricks, to show it’s crumbling and has been overtaken by the surrounding jungle. With the building seemingly a good match to what will be featured in the film, it jovial name of Stego Stop ‘N Go, but also is real.
It appears those on the research mission have taken to camping out in tents. One of these is featured on the set’s other buildable pieces of scenery. Along with a small tent, the part of the set also features a tall tree and one of the set’s play functions. The tree can be toppled by a small lever near the tent, and shows disregard for trees, which larger dinosaurs often have.
The set features three minifigures, which are inspired by the big-name stars taking on lead roles in the upcoming film. Unlike some of the more colourful minifigures featured in other sets inspired by Jurassic World: Rebirth, those included in this set are far more sensibly dressed for a jungle trek and running from dinosaurs. Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson) and Martin Krebs (Rupert Friend) both have print details on their legs. There’s not much else to say about the minifigures, they often play second fiddle to the dinosaurs.
Overall, this is quite a fun set. The dinosaurs continue to be the Jurassic World sets biggest draw. Unfortunately, the bigger the dinosaur, the higher the price. The rest of the set is appealing enough to complement the dinosaurs. Assuming it’s on the research island, having an abandoned petrol/gas station there is odd, but it is the perfect inspiration for a LEGO set. Even the vehicles are quite fun, the go-kart buggy is especially unique and makes a change from the quad bike and other off-road vehicles. This and all of the other sets inspired by Jurassic World: Rebirth will be available from June 1st.
