The LEGO® Star Wars Battle Pack – beloved by many, amassed by some, and they have the ability to enrage a small group of LEGO Star Wars ‘fans’. Regardless of your thoughts on Battle Packs, they are usually a decent way to collect a vast amount of similar minifigures, plus they often include interesting characters. The latest Battle Pack is mostly inspired by the live-action Disney+ series, Ashoka. It also has a minor connection to a horror-focused Star Wars EU novel. But will the latest Battle Pack have you buying them in bulk or complaining about its content? Here’s a closer look at the newly announced Death Trooper and Night Topper Battle Pack.

Until Rogue One: A Star Wars was released, Death Troopers were the reanimated corpses of fallen Stormtroopers. But the term was given new meaning thanks to the introduction of elite troopers. Those Death Troopers wore more advanced, black armour and were a far deadlier shot than the average Stormtrooper. A similar Stormtrooper variant was conceived through the Disney+ series Ashoka. Far from any Imperial facilities, the garrison of troopers stationed on Admiral Thawn’s Star Destroyer would repair their armour as best they could. They appear to have used a similar method of Kintsugi, the art of fixing items with visible gold seams. Despite the aforementioned book now being a tale of Legends. The concept was revisited during the Ashoka series. Here, the Witches of Dathomir use their power to bring the fallen Imperials back to life.
Battle Packs have always been about the minifigures, but they do contain other things. For this Battle Pack, it’s an extremely small and simple drop ship. This tiny transporter has enough room for four minifigures to stand along the sides of the ship. There are even clips for their weapons to be stored. There’s also room in the front to place another minifigure.
Accessing the cockpit is as simple as removing the front screen section and clipping it back on. No hinges or fancy connection methods, it really is a simple build. For added play functions, there are a pair of stud shooters mounted to the front of the ship. The four wing plates dotted along the top of the ship are a little awkward, especially as it’s not clear which of the two holes is used to slot them onto the body of the ship.
Most people will pick up the Battle Packs for the minifigures, and there are four in this set. They include two Death Troopers and two Night Troopers, These include two unique minifigure designs. One of the Night Troopers has previously been featured in set 75385, but the other not only has a different torso design it also has a grey coloured helmet. The Death Troopers use the same unique helmets as standard versions of the characters, but they feature the gold repair marks. Although the faces of the seemingly ‘zombified’ troopers are never fully shown, their minifigures do feature what is a monstrous head. This is used for all four minifigures.
It’s fair to say that the drop ship isn’t that exciting. It does add a little play to the set, but it’s the minifigures which are the greatest appeal of the set. Undead troopers are a rather obscure part of Star Wars lore, but became part of the main canon that’s to the Ashoka Disney+ series. The detail on each minifigure is quite impressive, and they offer unique variants of the characters. The Death Trooper & Night Troopers Battle Pack will be available from June 1st.
