Spacefaring vessels are the very first things ever seen in the Star Wars universe. Audiences watched in awe as a Rebel frigate is chased by a ginormous Imperial Destroyer. Since then the heroes, villains and questionable types have blasted around the galaxy far, far away in all sorts of starships. Unsurprisingly ships have become one of the cornerstones of the Star Wars theme. Almost every vessel seen in various Star Wars projects has been recreated in a LEGO® set. They have also appeared in many forms from simplistic 4+ sets to vast UCS builds. But their scale can often present issues. Playsets don’t always offer much detail and the larger sets, such as the UCS require a lot of space to display. Which is why the Starship Collection was introduced in 2023. The new Subtheme offers detailed microscale Star Wars ships. They have included ships such as the Executor Super Star Destroyer, Tantive IV and the Invisible Hand. The latest vessel to join the Starship Collection is another LEGO Star Wars first. Here’s a look at the recently released, Home One Starcruiser.

The Home One Starcruiser first appears in Return of the Jedi, where it plays a crucial role in the Rebel Alliance attack on the second Death Star battle station. Trap connoisseur Admiral Ackbar commanded the Mon Calamari vessel. Compared to other Star Wars ships, it is unique in the fact that its external shell is curvy.
Although this is the first time the ship has appeared as a LEGO set, part of Home One did inspire a set released in 2009. This focused on the ship’s command deck and A-Wing hanger, which is celebrated as a fun Easter Egg within the bows of the set. As you construct the core of the ship, there’s an empty section. Here you place several elements which represent characters from ROTJ. They are only stacks of 1×1 studs but can be linked to iconic characters including General Syndulla, who appeared on the ship during the Ahsoka series in Disney+. These provide no structural benefits to the set but they are a fun addition to find as you build the set, even if they can’t be seen once the build is complete.
Similar to other ships in the Starship Collection, once the core is complete the rest of the ship is added in different ways. The exterior is finished by cladding it to the core section. It’s then finished by adding smaller elements to cover gaps or to secure the plates in place. As the Home One ship has a rounded exterior, some unusual elements are used. These include a new curved 1×1 half-curve brick.
You’ll notice a smaller ship ‘flying’ alongside the Starcruiser. It is meant to represent a Nebulon-B Frigate, but it doesn’t really look like one. It’s such a small ship compared to Home One that the use of parts to replicate it is naturally limited. This smaller ship is connected to the underside of Home One by a transparent rod, so it can be easily removed, should you wish to do so.
The set includes a display stand to display the ship easily. This is similar to those featured in all of the Starship Collection range. The black stand allows the ship to be simply connected to the top of it. There’s no complex means to fix it in place beyond clutch power. As with other sets, the stand also includes a printed plate showing the LEGO Star Wars logo and the ship’s name. Oddly, it lacks the 1×2 grille plate featured on all but one of the previous Starship Collection sets.
As grand as the Ultimate Collector Series sets are, their size makes them tricky to display. This makes the Starship Collection an ideal substitute for those who love Star Wars and want to reflect that in displayable items. These smaller sets are also the perfect medium to feature lesser-known ships. Although the Star Wars universe is filled with iconic ships, not all are ideal candidates for UCS sets. The LEGO Star Wars Starship Collection Home One Starcruiser set is available now along with the Acclamator-Class Assault Ship.
