Toads have been loyal servants to the Mushroom Kingdom’s royal family. They are often found in royal residences or providing other useful services. They have also appeared in numerous past LEGO® Super Mario sets, including several themed around Toad’s unique homes. Toads are often depicted living in Mushroom-shaped huts, and this upcoming expansion set is just that —a Mushroom house that is home to a pair of Toads. Here’s a look at set 72041: Party at Toad’s House.

The Toad’s homes have been recreated in a handful of sets, but this new version is almost a coloured swapped take on a rare Super Mario set. During the COVID-19 era, Mario set 77907 Toad’s Special Hideaway was created for SDCC but was then sold at Target and online, only in the US. This featured a purple-roofed Mushroom Hut. This version features a red-capped roof, which is slightly fatter than other takes on the Toad’s homes. The interior is a little more detailed, especially upstairs, where you’ll find a cool 2×2 printer tile showing Princess Peach’s Castle.
Along with the house, the expansion set also features two small sections showing the party aspect of the set. One includes a table, decorated with balloons and a small cake, plus room to seat both of the set’s Toad characters. The other section includes an Action Tag and a gramophone. As these are built on the island plates, they can be connected to other sets and reconfigured in different ways. There are only two Action Tags featured in this set. One is found just outside the house and the other on the platform with the gramophone. At the time of writing, they are currently not readable by the interactive figures.
Confusingly, the name Toad is associated with both the red and white capped character, along with the race of characters. This set includes two Toads, one with a green cap and the other with a blue cap. If the naming wasn’t confusing enough, Green Toad has a green dotted cap and green outfit. Whereas Blue Toad has a, you guess it, blue dotted cap, but also the same blue coloured outfit as ‘normal’ Toad. Either way, Blue Toad has only appeared in a couple of higher-priced sets, and Green Toad was found included in the Series 6 Mario Character Packs.
It’s a cute little set, but a little too similar to previous Toad dwellings. The two Toad figures are great, especially has they aren’t as common as Red Toad. The set will certainly be overshadowed by other sets in the upcoming wave. Set 72041: Party at Toad’s House is released on August 1st.
