This Summer, teams from across the world will descend upon North America for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Ahead of the football tournament, the LEGO Group has partnered with FIFA for two upcoming LEGO sets. The sets are part of a new theme called LEGO Editions, and the largest of the two sets is a brick-built replica of the FIFA World Cup Trophy. The iconic trophy has been awarded to teams since 1974. Since its introduction, 6 teams have lifted the FIFA World Cup Trophy across 13 tournaments. The current FIFA World Cup trophy is based on a design by Italian Artist Silvio Gazzaniga and is crafted from 18-karat gold and malachite. The LEGO version is crafted from 2842 pieces and offers a 1:1 replica of the trophy.

The build begins with the base, which is built from a mix of gold coloured elements and earth green pieces. It also acts as the anchor for the core of the trophy. You’ll notice there are lighter green and yellow elements located on either side of the inner core. There is a good reason for this, and this technique is used throughout the build. Those coloured pieces act as markers, making it much easier to place additional parts to the set. The base also hides a printed disc which lists the winning teams of the current trophy (hence the omission of England and pre-1974 winners).
The outer detail of the trophy is made up of several larger plates which clad the trophy’s core. Although the majority of the trophy’s exterior is built from warm gold elements, there are some other colours used, and again, these are to assist with the build process. Any sets which use large amounts of the same coloured pieces can be tricky places, so these different colour elements go some way to elevating that. Although I still found it, I had to redo some sections. I highly recommend parting out the required elements for each build step, as it’s very easy to overlook pieces and be left with them.
Although most of the trophy is built from warm gold elements, these are complemented with some drum-lacquered gold elements. These are mostly used on the globe section, which sits atop the trophy, and on the two figures appearing to hold it aloft. Given the trophy’s unique shape. Much of its detail is achieved by the layering of elements, with the two figures also being built separately to the core of the trophy and clipped in place.
The real trophy is famously hollow; if it were solid gold, it would be able to be lifted. That’s certainly not the case with its LEGO counterpart. Once complete, it’s a hefty set, but there is a bit of a gap within the top section of the trophy. This hides a removable platform, which is home to an exclusive minifigure. The platform includes a recreation of the 2026 World Cup logo, which can neatly be replicated with various tiles. The minifigure includes an exclusive torso with the same logo on it, along with two different heads. It’s quite a basic minifigure, but thankfully, it includes an excellent accessory in the form of a mini World Cup trophy. Of the two World Cup sets, this is the only one to include the piece, and as it’s highly unlikely it will appear elsewhere, the mini World Cup trophy will be a rare element.
Despite FIFA’s questionable actions and the controversy surrounding the US hosting this year’s tournament alongside Mexico and Canada, it’s encouraging to see the LEGO Group catering to different audiences. However, the set’s high price may limit its appeal, despite football (or soccer) being one of the world’s most popular sports. But as we’ve seen with the F1 sets, their mere existence is a powerful marketing tool for the LEGO Group. The LEGO Editions FIFA World Cup Trophy can be lifted from March 1st.
