The start of the New Year is going to be filled with promotional sets, one of those sets expected to be offered during January is the Chinese New Year-themed Lucky Knots GWP set. The recently revealed set features two buildable ‘knots’ which are tied to blessings of good fortunes in Chinese culture. Luck and fortune are a big part of the Chinese New Year celebrations, with certain symbols, characters and colours being reflections of them. That’s perfectly portrayed in this upcoming GWP set, so here’s a closer look at the Lucky Knots set.

In Chinese culture, knots are considered good luck charms and are used to ward off evil spirits. Different styles of knots can mean different things, but the charms are mostly used to offer luck. They are often tied using red threads and are integrated with other things, such as beads and charms. The set features two knots, they are both the same build despite there being two instruction booklets. This just allows the set to be built by two people at the same time.
A series of red ‘ lifesaver ‘ elements recreate the string-like material used to create real knot ornaments. These aren’t the only unusual elements found in the set. The ends of the tassels use mop heads, and a new two-link chain element connects them to the ends of the handing sections. The longer hanging pieces are crafted from red candle elements.
In the middle of each knot is a printed 2×2 round tile, which soon becomes hidden as the rest of the set is built. These represent the coins with a square hole in the middle, which is another symbol of luck and fortune. These are covered up by a 4×4 tile plate, upon which you apply a sticker. The stickered pieces feature the Chinese symbols for ‘Fortune’ and ‘Spring’. There are interesting items to be built from LEGO elements and as with other Chinese New Year sets, they are deeply rooted in the cultural connections to the Spring Festival celebrations. Due to their size but mostly, their weight, it could be difficult to find places to hang them. The GWP set will be available tomorrow, global spend requirements haven’t been revealed but UK pricing is £135 or more.
