As a LEGO® Ambassador, I’m lucky enough to receive a Christmas present from the folks at the LEGO Group. In the past these have been various retail sets such as LEGO Ideas set signed by the designers. It’s not just us Ambassadors who are graced by some festive generosity. Every year members of the LEGO Design Teams create festive themed sets, with one picked by members of the Kirk Kristiansen family. The chosen set then gets given to all LEGO employees. Last year, thanks to AFOL Engagement Team, all of the Ambassadors received the same set as LEGO staff. This was an oversized Santa’s Sleigh and Reindeer, which celebrated 40 years of LEGO Minifigures. A few weeks ago this year’s Employee Set was revealed to be a Star Wars set, with a festive twist. The Christmas X-Wing not only celebrates Christmas but also 20 years of the Star Wars theme.
Although I secretly hoped the kind gesture of last year was repeated, I never expected it. Then a parcel was on route from Billund and arrived on Monday. I opened it and was delighted to discover the LEGO Star Wars Christmas set. Dubbed the Yuletide Squadron Xmas-Wing Starfighter, the set features a festive tinged ship, Minifigures and grotto cave. I won’t be doing a review but thought it would be nice to share this incredible set and also take the opportunity to thank the LEGO Group and the AFOLET gang for their continued support and kindness.
The actual X-Wing is based on the same build as the standard X-Wing released in 2018. So it has the same lever-activated cruise and attack mode function. But the colour scheme has been given a festive makeover, with bright red and white used. There are also Candy Canes lining each of the wings.
The set also features a festive take on Yoda’s Hut. This is a cross behind an igloo and cave, but also acts as a simple stand to display the X-Wing on. Plus there is a hover sleigh, no need for reindeer just repulsorlift tech.
There are three Minifigures included with the set. These include R2-D2, a festive Yoda and best of all a Yuletide Squadron pilot. Think the Star Wars universe’s version of Santa.
As a fan of Star Wars and LEGO, this set has filled me with an immense amount of joy. I would like to extend a huge thanks to the LEGO Group and the Engagement Team for the generous gift, which I will treasure for years to come.
