The Book
The NEXO KNIGHTS theme has given up some great sets over the past few years and these have been filled with an array of great characters, monsters and vehicles. The Character Encyclopedia rounds them all up into one handy book. Each character gets their own page, which is filled with information about them, including the sets they appear in and details of their appearances in the animated TV series and other connected products.
With the NEXO KNIGHTS theme featuring a diverse range of characters, many of which go beyond the standard Minifigure, the book also features those as well. From magical spell books to brick-built beasts, it’s the perfect reference for all things NEXO KNIGHTS.
The highlight for me arrives towards the end of the book, which features a number of pages dedicated to the behind the scenes development of the NEXO KNIGHTS. These offer an extremely interesting look at how LEGO sets are planned and refined before being released in stores. Better still are all the pieces of concept art, which offer a great insight into how the characters and monsters are designed and tweaked.
The book is rounded up with set gallery, listing all the NEXO KNIGHTS sets released in 2016 and 2017. Taking the book right up to the introduction of the Tech Infection arriving in 2018.
The Minifigure
The book also includes an exclusive Clay Minifigure, which features the slow creep of a Stone infection taking over Clay. This is portrayed by stone detailing on Clay’s left side and a dual printed head which also shows signs of the Stone Infection taking over Clay’s body.
Clay comes complete with an updated Claymore sword and shield, which includes the Chrome Bell NEXO power. This can be scan into the Merlock 2.0 app to unlock the power in-game. It’s a fun little Minifigure which has great print detailing all over. I particularly like Clay’s expressive stone-infected face.
Overall
The LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS theme may not have taken off to the same extend as LEGO NINJAGO but it still includes plenty of impressive characters and sets. Having them all brought toward into a one handy place, is a great way to showcase them all. The included Minifigure may not be an as exciting draw when compared to some of DK Books previous titles but I quite like it and it’s nice to get a bonus NEXO power to boot. With the NEXO KNIGHTS theme possibly coming to a conclusion in 2018, it’s a shame the book wasn’t released later into the New Year so it could includes the entire range of sets. Still what is included is a great way to see what the theme has to offer and the effort which goes into creating it. Available now from Amazon.
