Every great story needs a great selection of characters and the can be said about LEGO® sets. With the official launch of the new LEGO Monkie Kid range earlier today, I thought it would be fun to take a closer look at the numerous Minifigures features across the eight sets. The story of the Monkie Kid is inspired by and a continuation of the Chinese folk tale of Sun Wukong, the Monkey King. This legendary character was born from a magic stone atop a mountain. For many of us in the West, our knowledge of this ancient legend can be attained to the classic Japanese TV show, Monkey Magic. Other Minifigures include Mei, Sandy and Pigsy, all variants on characters from the story. These heroes face-off against Red Son, Princess Iron Fan and their Iron Bull Army. These funky new Minifigures have been created to honour the original story, whilst also updating it for a modern audience. Check them out below and see the sets you’ll find them all in here.

I don’t think we have actually seen Tang Sanzang / Tripitaka yet. Mei seems like she is only an adaptation of the White Dragon Horse. There isn’t really anything in either her biker costume or her casual costume that fits with Tan Sanzang.
