This year marks the 15th anniversary of the LEGO® Minecraft theme. After being one of the first licenced sets to come out of LEGO Ideas predecessor, CUUSOO, Minecraft soon became an established theme. As well as marking 15 years of LEGO Minecraft, this year is also the first time LEGO Minecraft has inspired a new LEGO title from DK Books. The ‘Ideas’ range of books from DK offers inspirational build ideas and unique LEGO elements. This new title follows the same format and includes a Minecraft-themed mini-build. Here’s a closer look at this new LEGO book.

As mentioned, the idea behind the LEGO ‘Ideas’ books (not to be confused with the theme of the same name) is to offer inspirational building ideas and tips. The books do not feature step-by-step instructions apart from those needed to build the included mini set. The LEGO Minecraft sets are a unique thing. Although they use a lot of ‘System’ bricks, they also include many unique pieces and have a distinctive visual style to replicate the blocky world of the game. This has been closely adhered to in the book’s build ideas. They range from things you can use to complement the LEGO Minecraft sets to items or characters from Minecraft, recreated with LEGO bricks. It’s one of the more interesting of DK Books’ LEGO Ideas titles.
The physical aspect of the book is a minifigure and a small piece of scenery complete with blocky sea creatures. The Diver minifigure has appeared in previous LEGO Minecraft sets. The same can be said for the sea creatures which include a fish and a pair of different-sized Puffer Fish. But together, they form a unique set, only available in this book. Unfortunately, some of the elements inside the polybag within the book were damaged. The 2×2 brick was warped and the legs of the minifigure were cracked. I would say this is a one-off but I’ve seen others note similar damaged pieces. I’m not sure if this is due to how the polybag has been packed into the book or a production issue. You can get replacement pieces but you’ll need to contact customer services as they can’t be requested in the normal manner.
The LEGO Ideas Minecraft Ideas book is available now in the UK and Europe. It’s published in North America today. Learn where you can get your copy of the book here.
