After already taking a look at some of the new 2023 LEGO® Polybags range in reviews part 1 and part 2, it’s time for the third part of my hands-on look at more of the latest promotional LEGO minisets. These new sets are from online retailer Brick-a-brac and you can also find them at The Minifigure Store. The ones I’m looking at today include Minecraft, Disney Princess, Wizarding World and Speed Champions.
30657: McLaren Solus GT
This is the third Speed Champions-themed promotional set and this one takes inspiration from the recently released McLaren double pack. The model featured in this set is the concept car created for the PlayStation racing sim Gran Turismo. Despite the scale of the car being much smaller than the standard Speed Champions sets, it actually requires an impressive amount of building. It’s also one of very few polybag sets to require stickers, which are applied to the front of the car’s bonnet and its spoiler. The set will also be given away free with the GAME exclusive edition of LEGO 2K Drive.
30651: Quidditch Practice
The Wizarding World has inspired a few different minisets and this one is rather interesting. It features a small plate which resembles a Quidditch Pitch. Upon this is a smaller plate mounted on a turntable plate, which allows it to spin around. There are two transparent rods on the top plate, one features a Golden Stitch and the other can be held by the included minifigures. That minifigure is an exclusive version of Cho Chang, wearing Quidditch robes. Despite the very small scale of the set, it does an impressive job of replicating a Quidditch pitch, partly thanks to the stacks of 1×1 plates to represent the four houses of Hogwarts.
30646: Moana’s Dolphin Cove
There have been s few Disney-themed polybag but they are often inspired by the mini-doll-focused Disney Princess sets. This one takes inspiration from Disney’s Moana. It includes two pieces of scenery both of which have some tropical island vibes. The larger section represents a small waterfall, which hides a baby dolphin. The set includes the same mini-doll version of Moana, which is featured in the larger Wayfinder Boat set. It also features a quite rare creature element in the form of Pua the pig, this has only appeared in one other set.
30647: The Dripstone Cavern
Minecraft is an interesting theme which continues to be popular after all these years. This is quite a simplistic set, which is only to be expected due to the source material. The simple nature of Minecraft also means the characters have little variety, both Steve and the Creeper have appeared in multiple sets, thankfully the set is redeemed by a small aquatic creature known as an Axolotl. Since they were introduced in Minecraft, they have taken the world by storm. The LEGO version is crafted from two pieces, a unique body and a printed 1×1 plate. Currently, the version featured in this polybag has only appeared in one other set.
