FOX Commissions The Masked Builder

Following the success of the US version of LEGO® MASTERS, FOX has announced a brand new spinoff show. Over the last few weeks, FOX has commanded Wednesday night TV audiences with their double bill of The Masked Singer and LEGO MASTERS. So the next natural step is to combine the formats of both shows into one crazy new series – The Masked Builder. The format will see unknown celebrities, hidden by elaborate costumes, battle it out with LEGO bricks. Each week they will create themed builds which will offer clues to their secret identity. A celebrity judging panel will then try to decipher who the Masked Builder is. It’s hoped that this new show, will be as popular as LEGO MASTERS and may see the format appear in other markets. The show may not appear on screens until early 2021 due to the on-going issues caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. You can learn more here.

April 1, 2020—Endemol Shine North America and U.K.-based independent production company Tuesday’s Child are once again teaming up to jointly produce a new concept LEGO® show for U.S. screens, following the success of “LEGO MASTERS”.

Originally created by Tuesday’s Child, “LEGO MASTERS” first launched on Channel 4 in the U.K. in 2017, quickly becoming the network’s highest-rated new series, nearly doubling its primetime average with young adults. The U.S. version of the show is currently running on FOX, where it has attained record audience numbers for a Wednesday night.

“LEGO MASTERS” was paired with hit signing show, The Masked Singer, which has shown consistently solid ratings for FOX. The unusual partnership of these two shows has to lead to the creation of a new format dubbed “The Masked Builder”.

The concept will see unknown celebrity builders, create impressive LEGO builds, which will offer clues to their hidden identity. Each week a panel of judges will try to uncover who the Masked Builder is. The costumes worn by the celebrity builders will be inspired by classic LEGO characters.

April Tåber will act as the shows Executive Producer, along with Craig Dwaas, DJ Narr and Michael Lure will serve as executive producers for Endemol Shine North America, Kay Smith and Steph Harry will serve as executive producers for Tuesday’s Child and Gill Willams and Jason Gee for The LEGO Group.

“This is a project that I am truly passionate about, as LEGO bricks have played an instrumental role in my family’s life,” stated April Tåber. “We are thrilled to be combining the excitement of “LEGO MASTERS” with the mystery of “The Masked Singer” in “The Masked Builder” we would be fools not to capitalise on this amazing opportunity.”

Gill Williams, Entertainment Manager, the LEGO Group says; “We are pleased viewers in the U.S. have enjoyed “LEGO MASTERS”. The series has celebrated creativity and the endless possibilities of the LEGO brick, not to mention the fun families and friends have when they build together. Being able to combine this magic with the craziness of The Masked Singer is an amazing opportunity ”
