The LEGO Group has been pushing to become more sustainable for a few years now with an aim to reach its goal by 2025. Some changes have already occurred such as reducing box sizes to use less cardboard, switching plastic padding for paper and even ditching plastic strapping for paper tape in online deliveries. Another previously announced big change was switching the plastic bags found in LEGO® sets for paper. In 2022, these are expected to start showing up in some sets. Thanks to the 2021 LEGO Employee Gift, which is themed around LEGO NINJAGO, we have the first in-hand look at these new style bags. As you can see they are similar in size to the plastic ones, but now have a ‘base’ so can be stood up. They feature a brick design along with the step number. As well as being fully recyclable they would also make great colouring-in sheets, should you need something to do after building the set. Expect to see paper bags in more LEGO sets starting in the new year.
