It’s the time of the year when people venture into their lofts, garages or basements to retrieve their festive decorations. Many LEGO fans have chosen the medium of the brick to bring a little festive flare to their Christmas decorating. Most of us use the long-running Winter Village sets as the basis for Christmas LEGO displays. This year’s offering is the Santa’s Visit and if you’re lucky you can also get last year’s Elf Clubhouse. If you’re really creative you can build your own additions to really bring your village to life. But what other sets can you use to expand your festive displays?
One of the best sets to integrate into your own Winter Village set-up comes from the 20th Anniversary Harry Potter theme. Hogsmeade Village is basically a Winter Village set in all but name. The two buildings are very similar in style to other WV sets plus there are a few additional accessories to go with them. They are even tinged with snow. Although they lack any festive decorations, the buildings look great next to other Winter Village dwellings.
Home Alone is a classic festive caper and the recently released LEGO Ideas set based on the film can add a modern twist to your festive displays. Admittedly, the set is far more festive inside than out but there are a few decorations draped around the front of the house as well as a little snow. If nothing else the roof of the house is a great perch for Santa’s sleigh.
As Christmas approaches, towns and shopping centres often get festive with Christmas displays of their own. In my hometown, we get a scene featuring different characters. You can recreate a large-scale display in your own Winter Village with the LEGO Winter Penguin character display. It’s perfectly sized to be a fun display for your Minifigures to enjoy as they sip hot chocolate.
