This week has seen the first wave of products released as part of the new partnership between LEGO® and Levi’s. After missing out on the controversial Adidas trainers, I decided to treat myself to a LEGO-inspired denim jacket and a new hat. Both of these Levi’s items feature the new flexible LEGO patch. So I thought I may as well get my money’s worth and take a closer look at this unique addition to the iconic Levi’s clothing brand.
The two items I went for are the yellow beanie hat and a denim trucker jacket, which along with the 501 jeans, is probably one of the most popular items created by Levi’s. It’s also one of the least ‘in-your-face’ items in the LEGO X LEVI’S collection. The basis of the jacket is pretty much the same as other Levi’s jackets. There are a few twists which tie it into the LEGO brand. These include coloured buttons, a studded L-Tab label and most excitingly two of the new LEGO patches on the left chest area.
It’s worth noting that this collection of clothes and accessories have been inspired by LEGO DOTS and these patches use an almost identical material to the DOTS bracelets. The material is best described as a rubberized plate, which as you’d expect is far more flexible than standard LEGO plates but still offers a similar level of clutch power.
Each item of clothing or accessory which features this LEGO patch also includes a unique packet of LEGO DOTS confetti. These are similar to the LEGO DOTS Extra bags and contain a selection of different shaped 1×1 tiles, including an exclusive printed Levi’s logo element. They come in a fairly muted colour palette of red, black, white and yellow. I guess these colours are associated with the Levi’s brand but does seem odd considering other aspects of the jacket and other clothes are quite colourful. As with all LEGO elements, you can, of course, use any other LEGO pieces to jazz them up. I even asked the folks at FabBricks to create a BricksFanz custom tile.
The first LEGO X LEVI’S items are available now from Levi’s stores and online. Additional items will be added soon and further products aimed at kids will also be made available via LEGO.com and region specific retailers.
