If you haven’t played any of the Horizon games, they are based in Earth’s far future where the planet is left in ruin following the Faro Plague. Robotic machines created to aid mankind, turn rogue and soon humankind reverts to form tribal societies. In an effort to terraform Earth into a liveable state, animal-like machines are unleashed. These robotic creatures ape the appearance and movement of their real-world counterparts. The machines play a key role in the Horizon series and will have a similar role in the upcoming LEGO Horizon Adventures game. Many of the machines from the PlayStation games have been replicated in digital LEGO bricks. Here’s how they compare.
Watcher
The Watcher is one of the first machines you are introduced to in Horizon. These Raptor-like machines are often found watching over other machines and can be overridden to help Aloy in battle. They will play a similar role in LEGO form but will act a little more like a dog than a deadly dinosaur.
Tallneck
The Tallneck first appeared in LEGO form back in 2022 as the star of the first LEGO Horizon set. In the games, the Tallnecks are huge giraffe-like machines, which double as communication towers. Aloy can climb them to unlock views of the surrounding area.
Shell-Walker
Shell-Walkers are a beast of a machine and take inspiration from hermit crabs. Their shell-like containers are used to transport items but getting to it isn’t easy as the Shell-Walker has a shield and powerful claws. They also leap to attack you. In LEGO Horizon Adventures, they may not be as deadly but they will certainly be filled with goodies to collect.
Sawtooth
One of the larger machines, the Sawtooth is inspired by a saber-toothed tiger. This apex predator can locate you, even when hidden if it gets a glimpse of you. They are used to protect herds of other machines. The Sawtooth is one of the first big machines you battle in Zero Dawn but doesn’t feature in Forbidden West.
Thunderjaw
Although most machines were created to terraform the planet, the rogue AI, HEPHAESTUS, soon started to craft deadlier machines to wipe out humans. The Thundejaw is one of the game’s bigger machines and is inspired by a T. rex. They are a mighty beast to take on but can be stripped of their weaponry, which can be used against it.
LEGO Horizon Adventures will be released on November 14th for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC.
