The humble LEGO® brick has many uses beyond just playing with them. The inventive use of LEGO elements has seen them help construct wheelchair ramps, allow animals to move around again and repair gaps in walls. LEGO bricks also had a hand in shaping the internet, thanks to an unlikely connection to tech giant Google. Today, Google officially marks its 25th anniversary. Back in 1998, in a garage located in Menlo Park, California, Google c0-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, needed something to house the server which would bring their new search engine to life. They choose LEGO bricks, well, classic DUPLO bricks to be precise, to partly construct a unit to hold the equipment necessary to create Google’s online ambitions. Although these days, people are wary of major tech companies, without Google, we may have never had to power to connect with so many and gain access to all sorts of information almost instantly.
