As Dinosaur Week concludes, it’s time to take a look at what the future of the LEGO® Jurassic theme could or should offer. The Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies are filled with iconic moments. One of them has already inspired a diorama set as part of the LEGO ICONS line of adult-focused builds. With power out, the Jurassic Park tour jeeps have come to a halt and they are soon hijacked by the escaped T. rex. The T. rex Breakout set captures that moment with the first-ever LEGO versions of the iconic Ford Explorer 4x4s and a break-built dinosaur, along with unique versions of Dr Alan Grant, Dr Ian Malcolm, Lex and Tim. Inspired by that set, which other iconic Jurassic Saga moments could be transformed into similar diorama sets? Here are a few ideas. Share your own in the comments.
“When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth”
Probably one of the most iconic moments from Jurassic Park is in the closing moments of the film. As the Velociraptors surround their prey in the Jurassic Park Visitor Centre foyer, the mighty T. rex bursts onto the scene and takes them on. As Rexy dispatches her foe, she roars as the “When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth” banner drops to the ground. This would make an amazing diorama scene.
“Raptors in the Kitchen”
The iconic 1993 film is packed with visual iconic moments including when Tim and Lex are chased by Raptors. They find themselves trapped in the kitchens. This heart-stopping moment shows just have relentless a hunter the Velociraptor is. It would make for an interesting LEGO diorama, with kitchen equipment offering a good opportunity for a detailed build.
“Dilophosaurus in the Downpour”
As Dennis Nedry makes his escape to the docks with his canister of dinosaur embryos, he gets a little stuck in the downpour and as he’s trying to free his jeep, a curious Dilophosaurus appears. A rattled Nedry returns to his vehicle only to come face-to-face with the goop-splitting dino. The jeep sitting atop a fast-flowing stream of water could be perfectly recreated in a highly detailed diorama.
“Raptor Squad Pursuit”
The Jurassic World films might not have as many stand-out moments as their predecessor did, but it does have a couple. Especially the moment the trained pack of Raptors surround Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady on his motorbike as he speeds through the jungle of Isla Nublar. This fluid chase scene could be a fun scene to recreate in the style of a diorama.
“Indominus Indigestion”
The concussion of Jurassic World pits Rexy against the hybrid dino, the Indominus rex. As these two apex beasts battle it out in the ruins of the Jurassic World shopping district, the water-dwelling Mosasaurus breaches the water and drags the Indominus to a watery death. It would be interesting to see these dinosaurs crafted as brick-built beasts.
“Spinosaurus Vs. T-Rex”
The original Jurassic Park sequels aren’t filled with many iconic moments, but the fight between the T. rex and the Spinosaurus is pretty impressive. Mostly due to the use of practical effects in much of the scene. The two large dinosaurs would be complex to build but would look great battling it out in LEGO form.
