The Mandalorian has reinvigorated the Star Wars universe as well as giving us plenty of material to inspire new LEGO® Star Wars sets. One of the most popular of the sets based on the Disney+ show was the Mandalorian’s beloved Razor Crest. But with the ship blasted to bits by Moff Gideon Imperial Light Cruiser, Din Djarin needed a new ship. Oddly, he got his new wings not in the Mandalorian but in the recent Book of Boba Fett series. The moment his new ship was revealed, the LEGO community instantly set to work recreating it. But they didn’t need to, as the LEGO Star Wars Design have also been hard at work, creating the new ship and as a special treat, here’s an early look at the Mandalorian’s N-1 Starfighter.

With the Razor Crest destroyed, the Mandalorian needed a new ship and with a little help from Mos Eisley spaceport mechanic, Peli Motto, he was soon piloting a familiar looking ship. Star Wars fans instantly recognised Mando’s new ship from the prequel trilogy as it’s a repurposed Naboo Starfighter. The build is split across three bags and contains a small sheet of stickers.
As you would expect for a ship which is basically a repurposed Naboo Starfighter, it looks very much the same, in terms of its shape, as the yellow ships we saw blasting around during The Phantom Menace. Of course, it’s lost much of its yellow lustre, although there are flashes of it around the cockpit area. This area of the ship has also been switched up compared to the original ship. The section where an Astromech is normally slotted has been retrofitted to create a place for Grogu to sit. In order to slot Mando into the main cockpit, you’ll need to remove his jetpack and Darksaber. Thankfully, they can be stored onboard the ship, but the compartment they go into can be a little tricky to open.
You’ll notice an odd disc-shaped section to the front of the ship, this does serve a purpose, as it launches the missile bolt loaded into the base of the ship. It wouldn’t really be a LEGO Star Wars ship without one of these. Most of the ship is fairly easy to build and in some cases, such as the long tail of the ship, a little sparse. But the two engines found on the wings are surprisingly complex. Their cobbled-together look is achieved by stacking together a mix of elements.
The set includes two minifigures along with a Grogu figure and a new BD Droid figure. The Mandalorian has appeared in a number of sets in both his original armour and his upgraded Beskar version. But there has been a major gripe with the character – his head. Now one of the key components of the Mandalorian lore is the need never to remove your helmet. Throughout the first season of the Disney+ series, Mando remained faceless until an important moment in the season finale. I can understand the first few sets featuring a blank head but not some of the more recent ones. Thankfully, this set is the first to give Din Djarin his face. It’s only a single expression but it does use, what seems a new flesh tone head. The rest of the Minifigure matches that of the updated Beskar clan version. He also includes a jetpack and the Darksaber. Unfortunately, this version of the fabled laser sword still matches the usual lightsaber style, which really doesn’t suit the appearance of the Darksaber. Grogu is also the same as his previous versions, offering nothing new but it’s nice he’s included.
The other two characters are all-new fan-favourite additions to the Star Wars universe. Peli Motto was first introduced during the first season of The Mandalorian and then popped up in the Book of Boba Fett. This is where she helped Mando fix up the ex-Nubian ship. The minifigure is a decent representation of the character, especially her overalls and tool belt. I would say the hair is a little too long but it’s certainly curly enough. There are many Droids to be found across the various aspects of the Star Wars universe. One of those fast became a fan-favourite when it was introduced in the EA Games title, Jedi: Fallen Order. That Droid was a new model known as BD Droid. Although a different Droid to the game, it’s just as loveable and fits in well with Peli and her Pit Droid crew. The LEGO version is a new piece and created as a single element, which is quite detailed for such a small piece.
You can pre-order the N-1 Starfighter now and if you do so during the May the 4th promotion, it will qualify for the current GWPs although the actual set will not ship until June 1st. If you also order a currently in-stock product as well, you’ll get the GWP with that.
Review Round-up
It was inevitable Mando’s new ship would become a LEGO set, especially after how popular the Razor Crest has been. The result is a decent set, which offers something new for the Star Wars theme, despite being based on a ship introduced back in 1999. Although the tail is a bit iffy, the rest of the feel looks great and offers a fun build with plenty of focus on making the ship look old and restored. If nothing else it also has extremely satisfying swooshabilty.
