I jokingly posted a question on social media partly inspired by the excellent Disney+ series, WandaVision and it’s gone nuts! Without going into spoilers, Vision poses a question based on metaphysics of identity, called the ship of Theseus. This is about a wooden ship, which had rotting planks of wood replaced over time until none of the original wooden pieces remained. Thus posing the question – is it still Theseus’ ship? My question was if you recreated a LEGO® set using parts sourced from BrickLink, eBay, PaB or other LEGO sets, instead of buying the set in its original form, do you then own that LEGO set? Almost all elements of a LEGO set can be purchased including boxes, instructions and stickers. Even if you don’t have the box but the rest of the build is an exact replica but created from elements sourced in various ways, would you consider this owning the set?
